I'm disappointed you didn't find a way to go high tech with this... this is 2016 after all! They have some pretty badazz lasers at Livermore.

Any details?

Did they plane it flat or sand it or both?

Did they make you buy the belt as some suggested?

It looks great.

Haha - nice! It is almost too perfect now - you can see all the imperfections in the wood and laminate glue lines! Time to butcher something on it! A turkey or two soon?

Sanded it. Giant drum sander.

It turned out great. They stopped short and elected to leave some love marks. It's really smooth. The did the other side a little bit since it wasn't perfectly square. It's drinking in the mineral oil right now

Just wiping on mineral oil. Lady at drug store must think I'm constipated to the max. I bought a lot. After it's done with oil, I'm going to my home-mixed jar of min oil / beeswax mix for the final
Layer.

I'm gonna take some mahagony to the shop. See if it's worth turning into a huge cutting board.

I've read that 100% pure Tung oil is best. I bought a gal. last year and a gal. of Citric solvent.
Apparently, unlike other oils, Tung will leach in and create a barrier to the fats, goop, etc. over the years.
BTW, your block/table looks great!
Any idea what it weighs?

No idea. The top is close to 100 lbs I'd guess. My back is sore flipping it. My wife won't even acknowledge my cries for help.

The table looks good. Cut the tung oil (if it is 100% pure) with odorless mineral spirits (50/50) for the first few coats, which allows it to seep into the wood (so I am told).
