Nice Weather

2 days to let the roads to dry out.
I bought a new (to me)...a 2000 Miata low mile goodie last fall. I had a stoke thrown into the mix and couldn't drive for 2 months ....soon there after. My SIL was kind enough to take me for a ride in the car.

The car needed some polishing & , I suppose, that was some good rehab for the old bod.....not that the old bod works as well as it did, but that was the hand I was dealt.
I went and retook my drivers test & got back my DL.

Then it rained. Basically from November till a couple days ago.
Sun's out and it's time to drive the thing. It has a after market turbo ( amongst other stuff) and that seems to be well installed. For a Miata, it goes like stink. Accelerates harder than any of my old street Porsches and the 6 speed is one slick shiftin' SOB. I didn't push the car for ultimate handling.......nor to check the old bod to see if that could cut it....but it feels good. I need an AX session.

The good weather is supposed to be good for a couple more days. I'll get some more butt time.:D

Outstanding, JP!

" and then it Rained". Boy that truly sums it up.
After a wonderful visit in the PNW this past summer, I had come to think that may be a place I could settle in. And then it rained.

J P. So glad to hear that you are getting to enjoy the new ride!

Cheers Richard

You can't turbo an MX-5.

In your state ? Pretty much done all the time out here, and then there was the factory turbo version, the Mazdaspeed Miata. Came stock with a six speed...

Tobra 02-09-2016 11:59 AM

Turbo or Supercharge if you need to pass smog.

You will be ES if you don't do anything to it. Competitive in ES I might add

You want some nice coilovers for it, you know you do. I put a used set of custom valved dampers and matched springs on mine. It is like a different car.

Top down weather here for the first time in almost a month, a MONTH!

Bummer...
Strokes are weird. The severity varies from "big deal" to "last deal". I've had 2 but am still vertical. I'm a fairly active guy, but this one smoked my endurance....that is taking some fixing & progress is slow, but improving. ( my typing is still a trial). I went from being unable to lift my left arm over my head to doing that with 10lbs.....but only 7 times thus far. My walking gait is all F ed up.....and the weather is a limiting factor. A tread mill incredibly booooooring.

The first thing I did with the new car was take it thru EPA ( the SIL drove). It passed, no problem. The Flying Miata set up uses a piggy back controller so the stock ECU is intact for testing plug in......I did some research before buying. The FM setup is a pricey sombytch.....I have a receipt, but no dyno graph. I talked at the installer & they didn't do one......go figure. The boost gauge shows about 7psi......things happen quick in the lower gears.

The Tien coilovers have semi-stout springs but are acceptable. The ride motions are
decent.....no need for Bilsteins yet....and AX event will tell the tale.....if the old bod will allow it.

Old joke from Sammy........what the hell, I'm old.

.

No family history of strokes, i'm the first. It hit the 30 minute puke button. Couldn't see for 48 hrs. Entire left side down. Got to walking as soon as possible leaning against stuff, rubbery legged. People think your drunk. No desire to drink alcohol ever again, don't like the feeling. Couldn't drive, dizzy like your in a non-stop elevator. I was very lucky only lasted couple of months. Rehab said I was the fastest recovery she had ever seen. I was super motivated. Still get dizzy occasionally in the dark. HOPE you are doing well, I have an incredible empathy for stroke victims now(since I am one). I remember telling my wife on the way to the hospital " it's a cruel joke":) edit: stamina got cut in half...

Inside joke, goes back to the olden days when they said we couldn't turbo a 914.

JP gets it. Just don't let him dig a hole in your back yard.

;)

I passed on the rehab offered, preferring to do my own......dunno if that was a wise choice, but we're progressing.... that is how I've always gone. My 35 years of Crohns disease has left me with some preferences for recovery. 3 bowel resections will give plenty of recovery experiences. Strokes involve more than tissue healing, I've found.
The whole thing is effing weird.

Both of my strokes happened while I was sleeping......a nightmare after you wake up.

enzo1 02-10-2016 10:28 AM

3:00 in the morning for me. Couldn't sleep got up to P , laid down adjusted my pillow BAM WTH is going on. Thought I had food poisoning at first but realized no, stroke...dunno why but I was really calm. My buddy had a heart attack 2 weeks before had surgery ok the next day doesn't quite understand about strokes:confused: I told him" you don't want any part of this action"...

enzo1 02-10-2016 10:44 AM

Concerning rehab I think it may have been instrumental in my attitude in this way: there were 48 strokes in my area in 1 week and the place was always full, seeing what had happened to all those people just did something to me motivation wise' no crying in my soup' so to speak. I think thats very important! If /when I had to go through it again? Oh man...

The weather is back to FEB. normal......cool, wet & sloppy.:(

I'm looking for a shop to do some work on the Miata......In Clark County......a bit of a challenge. I think I've found one. The 90 buck per hour seems a bit stout, but I've been out of that market for ever.

This joint says they can do the work and has Dyno access. The whole stich is gonna run about $1200-1500 parts & labor......no wonder I was a DIY guy.

Tomorrow I get on the net to buy some parts......about half the total cost. Lots of Maita AM suppliers out there. Finding a good one is the trick.

onewhippedpuppy 02-14-2016 08:02 AM

Glad things are improving JP. People who knock the Miata have no idea what they are talking about, even stock they are fantastically fun little cars.

URY914 02-14-2016 08:25 AM

Hang in there JP. The car will help you recover.

Well I know. I chased them for years at AXs. I kept working on my 914 and finally got em' all....except one DP Miata. That car was also chased by other Matias & they couldn't catch him either. He collected at least one class championship at the Nationals.

The new owner of that 914 has done a few mods and now can get him. The new owner has a deeper pocket book than I......it still LOOKS like a 914.....driving the thing is outta my league.

I would have happy with a stock Miata......but a well built one in great condition came floating along...........
