Price check on 996 GT3s?

I have a friend considering this one, asking my opinion. I have no idea what the market is on these. Anyone?

Hey Denis
What's the asking?

speeder 02-17-2016 09:39 AM

Sorry, I corrected the link. $70k

porsche4life 02-17-2016 10:15 AM

Seems to be fairly in line with where they've been for about a year now for a nice one!

Great car!

KNS 02-17-2016 10:26 AM

Great looking car, I wish they made more of those.

That's a good price for the condition and mileage..If I only had it.

GT2's & 3 are over-inflated right now like all other Porsches

It's within +/-10% of the mean from what I've seen. There are better deals to be had but not by much.

Dan J 02-17-2016 01:43 PM

It's inline with the market. I had the natural leather interior in one of mine
and thought it was spectacular though I think most would prefer black
Great car but definitely PPI by knowledgeable firm required

These never really dipped below 65k, I am afraid. Some times I would see some ridden hard / put away wet examples in the mid 50s, never anything below.

They are soaring on price, a few years ago you could easily find one for $50k. That one seems market price, though that seller doesn't impress me with their level of car specific documentation. I see a lot of their listings and they seem like the typical flipper. Personally I would look for a car for sale by owner with full documentation, or at least a decent description.

This one might still be available:

There's one that's been advertised for quite some time at about $55k with close to 100k. I seriously considered buying it.

Is this the "Widow maker"?

I saw a doc a few years ago. One of the 2wd "GTwhatevers" has a rep as a dangerous car. (GT2 I think)

"Many have been put through a bush backwards"

This one?
2004 Porsche GT3, Street/Track Car.
Looks like a pretty decent deal (if still available).

That's the Carrera GT.

Also someone raised the price on the 100k GT3

Denis,

I have an '04 GT3, and I saw the car you posted as well. I think it is a pretty fair price. A few comments. White commands a significant premium on these cars. It is probably the MOST desirable color, along with Atlas Gray. The natural brown leather is different, and would be a personal decision. I think it looks great with white, but I'm not sure I would prefer it over black (particularly for resale). 41K miles is sort of middle range. It certainly doesn't qualify as low, or high, but it kind moves it out of the absolute "collector" market, at least at this point in time.

Some key considerations....are there maintenance records? Does the car have a track history? If so, how many of the 41K are track miles? Any range 2 over-revs? A DME report would reveal that. Have the coolant pipes been welded or pinned? This is a known issue on all Mezger motor Porsches. Has the LSD been replaced? This is a known significant weakness on these cars. Beyond those items, they are pretty much bulletproof. And even the items above, track history, over-revs, etc..., don't have to be show stoppers.

As with any Porsche purchase, a key question needs to be, "what is the intended purpose of the car"? Is it for a collection? Is it to have a track day car? Is it to be a daily driver? Or just a spirited driver for weekend fun? The answer to that will help determine the importance of the findings to my questions above.

They are incredible cars. The last of the no-nannies Porsches. ABS is the ONLY assist on these cars. The next generation GT3 has traction control, stability management, etc... Not that there is anything wrong with those driver aids, but it is just not the same experience as an "all driver" car like the 996 GT3.

I bought mine in July of 2014, and I plan to keep it for 10 years, at least, if that tells you anything.

Good luck. Let me know if I can help further.

Thanks,

JA

Fair price especially for white.

Jandrews 02-17-2016 08:17 PM

John, long time no talk. Great to see you've still got the GT3. Hope it's been a good car for you.

I am enjoying your old 70E....

911boost 02-18-2016 07:36 AM

I seriously considered a GT3 instead of the 996TT, but I needed the back seats.....

I like the blue one.
