Holy Crap - Guitar content
I saw Mr. Frank about this time in Berkeley - Jaw dropping show. But now I see how Steve's technical virtuosity pushed Frank to equal chops, but much better melodic construction. I mean wow.....

The Zappa clip. Sure the technique and phrasing are there, but it was just solos for the sake of having solos.
Even his most famous tune, For The Love of God gets tedious after a while despite having ridiculous technique and tone. Don't get me wrong. I love solos. It's a big reason of why I listen to Metallica, John Petrucci and Eric Johnson. Vai (and Zappa to some extent) are just way too over the top for me...I do like Call Any Vegetable (ZPZ) and Attitude Song (Vai). |

Mr Zappa apparently lived right down the street from my aunt up until he was about 10. She said he was a very nice young man.

Frank was a monster on guitar. I always felt that Zappa did stuff for the sake of being different, though.

I wasn't sure if that was an intentional reference or the most beautiful of all coincidences!
