Auto insurance co are all lowlives...
Modern cars, I mean (otherwise I swear by Hagerty).
I recently found out my insurer has been fleecing me for 3 years. They never gave me the "super duper good driver" discount they should have ($300+ a year) because on *their* record (unpublished, unaccessible and never mentioned to me), I supposedly had 51% responsibility on a 5 year old accident (when a lady on a motorized skateboard lost control and hit my parked car!!!). I found out accidentally (even then it took 3 tries to get an explanation), had to contact my old ins co. about a 5y old claim (good luck doing that when you are no longer their customer), prove to them with letters and police report they were wrong (0% me), and they *still* will not refund me past-discounts I missed out on.... For fun, I should point out the previous insurance comp-bastards had actually dropped me after 10 years of zero claims for that one time $2000 "0% responsibility" claim mentioned above ! And then there are the ones that want to put a GPS in your car now to monitor your driving.... I hate them all.... Anyone happy with anybody other than allstate, Geico or Progressive ? (statefarm apparently not being an option because they wouldn't insure me unless I gave them *ALL* my cars, and I believe hagerty is better for classics). Racketeer, much ? |

They all suck. Liberty Mutual has been jacking my rates up for the past 5 years because there have been a lot of hail claims in Montana in recent years.
I just quoted my '95 993 on Hagerty... $1300 a year! And, I have a clean record with no claims. Just ridiculous. I drive it maybe 1,000 miles per year.

Here's the best part - my rates from The Hartford went up so much this year that I've decided to check around; I made one phone call to one company and now, suddenly my mailbox is full of insurance solicitations...
WHAT? Collusion? Who, US? Naw, never! That would be wrong! Trust us! |

Here in Jersey we have NJ Manufacturers. They have been reasonable in their rate hikes over the 30 years that I have been with them. Even after paying out nearly $300,000 in medical payments for the crash that nearly ended my life 15 years ago my rate did not sky rocket, it went up but not drastically. Yes my rate is expensive compared to other states but within Jersey no not so much.

YMMV, but Liberty Mutual premiums on my autos and home can't be touched by anyone. I've tried alternate company quotes for the last 5 years or so. I'm paying more than I want to, but the premiums are very low compared to competition.

The insurance companies suck, but having a good agent is priceless!
I have enough policies with one company that my agent wants to have a sit-down every year or so to go over everything. I come out either "everything is okay" but sometimes I come out paying less as things get shifted around to my benefit. I guess I'm a good customer, as I pay lots in premiums and haven't had any claims. Not interested in buying insurance online. I like to look right at the agents eyeballs. Excellent customer service that way. |

NO ONE will put a GPS in my car for monitoring.....they advertise it off, as proof of your good driving record, but we all know that they are looking for an excuse to blame you for speeding or hard braking, or some other "monitored illegal activity". It is also probably backed by the government to know what location you are at at all times.

We have State Farm and our agent is great. We have everything with them including our life insurance. When the deer hit the 911 he took care of everything and disputed nothing on the repair.

State farm told me they were all or nothing... in order to do house, modern cars and umbrella policy, they had to have ALL my cars (including classics currently with Hagerty). I politely declined. Allstate had no problems doing it piecemeal, but fleeced me. Progressive messed up and tagged my "claims record" wrong. Geico give money to cops for radar guns. It' s a racket ;-)

Just left Allstate after 2 years. 10%+ premium increase each 6 month renewal. Mind you, no tickets, accidents or claims in 20+ years. And I refused to use the app that tracks how I drive. Geico did similar (unexplained rate increases). Now with Farmers. I hate insurance almost as much as taxes. What a scam. I take that back. I hate insurance MORE than I hate taxes.

I will switch if they raise my premium a dime when I've had no claims or tickets and drive the same old bike or car. Progressive kept me at the same rate for seven years for my bike, then jacked it up $200 last year. I left them immediately, as Geico was able to beat even their old rate. Then Geico tried the same stunt last week after only one year with them, no tickets or claims, same bike. I called Progressive and they were now cheaper than the rate I was paying them years ago. Left Geico. I make sure to tell them when I leave that they won't get an extra dime out of me for their annoying commercials.

This might just be that agent. I have State Farm for everything except my '63 Lotus, which is insured through a classic car insurer.

Insurance is one of those things you just have to be willing to shop every couple of years. They all do it. Low introductory rate to get you in, then creep the premiums up until you squawk. They don't have any loyalty to you, so you have to treat them the same way.

State Farm offers classic car insurance. There have been several threads on this forum in the past year....

I have no problem with State Farm. My agent always confirms I'm getting all the discounts and I'm treated right. However...I've been with the same agent at State Farm for 42 years! |

I've used Allstate most of my life. Never an issue. Claim paid instantly. Zero hassles.
I use Hagerty for my 911. Hope I never make a claim. With insurance, you get what you pay for.
