Tempting but I would never leave. And go broke.

Bump... I'm staying in Troy, leaving tomorrow if anyone local is up for a beer.

Little late, apologies. What do you like? Detroit institute of Art is great, plenty of historical auto industry relics to enjoy, Henry Ford's Greenfield Village, Motown and just the utter decay. Love live music? Saint Andrews, Fillmore or Harpos, not sure what would be going on tonight. To bad the Wings were not in town this weekend.

For pub food and drinks, I'd go into the city (then again, I dislike the Detroit suburbs and love the city.) There are a ton of choices in midtown / downtown / corktown, most of them good. Everything from super-hip / hipster to dive and really old-school Detroit. Second on visiting the DIA and especially the Rivera Court in it. If you're there, walk across the street and check out the library across the street.

Casual pub fare, Slows BBQ, HopCat, Republic, somewhat upscale Seldon Standard, nicer, Wright and Company, Roast and Joe Muer Seafood. All downtown and cabable or Uber.

A few other comments:

-HopCat has a large beer selection but feels like a suburban sports bar. If you like that vibe, you'll like it. I find it weird in Detroit, and don't like suburban sports bars anyway, but that's my own taste.

-Jolly Pumpkin would be a better choice for a beer-centric pub like place. Or Motor City Brewing, across the street from JP in Traffic Jam's parking lot. They have excellent pizzas. Or, for old-school, Traffic Jam itself.

-For super-old-school Detroit, there is the Dakota Inn, or the Poish Yacht Club, or the Cadieux Cafe on the east side.

-Back to a pubby vibe, the Grand Trunk Pub on Woodward has been around a long time, has a large MI-centric beer list, and has a neat interior that was once part of the central train station.

-Green Dot Stables near St. Anne's church in SW Detroit (easy to get to from the freeway, about 10 minutes from downtown) has great creative sliders, plenty of beer, is non-pretentious, and is cheap.

-Or, if you want something quieter and less hip, go across the street to Motor City Brewing, in the back of Traffic Jam's parking lot. Excellent pizzas too.

-Craft Work in the West Village is worth considering for a restaurant, and is in a neighborhood, which I think is kinda nice.

+1 for Grand Trunk Pub! Was there with my youngest last year.

My oldest just there over the weekend clubbin" He enjoyed it! $60 Amtrak ticket back to Chi-town.

The city is changing and not for the worst.

Go to "The Henry Ford". It's a world-class museum. It even has some cool cars, including the Gurney-Foyt LeMans-winning GT40 and a Bugatti Royale!
