Robot overlords are on thier way

I wonder if humanity will remember the moment things changed was when the robots got back up after being knocked over.

Oh, crap.

Bill Douglas 02-23-2016 10:40 PM

Expensive, fun to shoot at, the list goes on. I can't see it happening in my time.

Noah930 02-23-2016 10:58 PM

robot shoulda smacked the guy with the hockey stick.

HardDrive 02-24-2016 03:54 AM

I, for one, welcome our new robot overlords.

ckelly78z 02-24-2016 04:25 AM

It was supposed to have already happened at 2:14 A.M. on August 29 of 1997....when SKYNET gained artificial awareness !

Scary stuff right there.

fastfredracing 02-24-2016 04:32 AM

It walks like it has to poop. Pretty cool stuff though. Pure science fiction when we were kids, now reality

Shaun @ Tru6 02-24-2016 05:07 AM

They will probably have jet packs before we humans do.

GH85Carrera 02-24-2016 05:15 AM

I am not worried about the robots until we develop a real power source like Commander Data in Star Trek or Terminator had. How far can they robot walk? One mile? I have no idea but it can't be far. Until it has a real power source it will not be much a threat. So far we have no clue at all how to even build a source of power that will be necessary for robots to do much but warehouse and manufacturing work. Certainly not enough to take over the world.

It certainly looks scary but until we develop artificial intelligence they're really nothing more than a "wind up toy".

And like Glen wrote power is a big problem right now.

So how far away is true AI? ... Around 2035 and beyond IMO. It is coming but there's a whole lot of development to be done. (note I wrote true AI)

It is just a robot. It has no feelings to hurt. It just has a task to do and keeps trying.

One of the ladies I worked with back in the day of DOS 3.3 would apologize to the computer every time it beeped due to her making an invalid entry or causing an error. I kept telling her that the computer did not even have a microphone to here her apology and even if it did I would not care since it has no feelings to hurt.

So you apologize to your rental car when you drive it hard and hit a hard bump?

herr_oberst 02-24-2016 07:56 AM

At least we'll be able to hear them coming in time to stop what we're doing if that happens to be something they don't want us doing.

GH85Carrera 02-24-2016 07:57 AM

Just hit em with a EM pulse and we can take back the world.

Actually true.

We can always "pull the plug" but we have to make sure we build a "plug" that can be pulled remotely if needed.

biosurfer1 02-24-2016 08:13 AM

Haven't you seen the Matrix... we ARE the power source ;D

If the machine is built buy Apple, we won't have a way to disable it and Apple will refuse to help.

If it is built my Microsoft, you will have to keep upgrading and rebooting to keep it running but, it will do a GREAT job of spying on you.

If it is built my Bentley it will have a $215k wrist watch.

Porsche refused to build it because they didn't want to dilute the brand (in other news, Porsche is going ahead with a new Pickup Truck).

No matter who builds it, Obama will tell them

A whole lot better than that other thing they developed, which sounded like it ran on a swarm of angry bees!!! Was like a chainsaw on steroids! It was more of a military pack mule.

In the PC world we live in now it wont take long until you will HAVE to apologize! Soon it will be defined by law that computers have feelings! Our feelings wil be the feeling sof the computer, so hurting our feelings will hurt the associated computers feelings.

It is a crappy world we will live in soon if we dont make it stop or at least have a little resistance against the development!

If people don't like seeing street signs in Spanish or Chinese, they're really going to be pissed when they start putting up street signs in QR Code.

red-beard 02-25-2016 11:14 AM

Bullies for robots!

You have to say, that's getting pretty impressive. Readily available gyroscopes and fast processors really changed the game in making an upright two legged robot. You can only hope that power and AI are going to be fundamental issues not solved anytime soon. But you know it is coming - give it another 100 years ...

I can't wait to go to "West World" - but before Yul Brynner goes sideways.
