Weekend in Spokane

All,

I was hoping to bundle all our drone business in Washington State into one week, but a large potential client can only meet next Friday, the rest are lined up the week after.

So, I have a weekend in Spokane. The last time I was in Spokane was 40 years ago...I drove up to see a friend of mine who went to Gonzaga. I had run the Snake River commercially and had a few days to burn.

I don't remember much, frankly. I have spend some time of TripAdvisor and the Spokane Facebook site but any insight from locals or recent visitors is welcome. I will have a rental, probably a Jeep.

I get in Thursday and will have Friday and Saturday night open if any one is up for a beer or wine. From the website I have been on, Spokane looks like a really nice place.

All the best.

Bring warm clothes and try to connect with Jhynes if he's around.

I used to spend my summers in the Cheney/medical lakes/Fair Child. I'm not sure for the older crowd, but there's good 4 wheeling places outside Spokane. They also have the skyride downtown. I'm not sure if baseball is in season yet, but that's about as much fun as you'll get in Spokane....

Make sure you go to Zips.

Paul - You like to wander. Take a day trip thru the wheat country of the Palouse...Stop in the little towns and you will swear someone turned the clock back to the 1950's....

South on Hwy 27 at least to the town of Palouse - North on Hwy 95 to Plummer, ID. East Hwy to St. Maries, north Hwy 3/97 up the east side of Lake Coeur D'Alene thru Harrison. One of my Favorite motorcycle routes...

I'll do it.

The last time I was in that ares was 15 years ago. My son and I were on a cross country drive. We stayed in Lewiston than headed out through Pomeroy and Dayton. Beautiful country. I was going to try and make Cle Elum but it is a bridge too far on this trip!

I should have remembered this. During the early stages of ALFS testing the guys testing the system spent a lot of time there.

Thanks for the tip!

If you haven't already booked your hotel, checkout the Davenport. We've stayed there a couple times. I prefer the original old hotel, but their new tower across the street is also nice.

I am in the Davenport Tower. Can you recommend a good breakfast place?

My sympathies. Spokane was my home town. After you visit the falls in the middle of downtown, you're pretty much done with Spokane, proper. But lots of interesting spots in the surrounding area. Something like 75 lakes within a 50 mile radius...

With respect to Techweenie, I gather Spokane has changed quite a bit in the last several years. I moved here from Seattle in 2013 and have enjoyed it immensely. It's a great combination of smaller town, plenty to do and great outdoor activities.

The restaurant and beverage scene is alive a well. Restaurant week starts 2/26. My step daughter owns Europa downtown and her husband is an excellent chef.

Great hiking and cycling very close to town.

I should have time to grab a beer Saturday if that works in your schedule. Shoot me a PM.

Spokane is dead. If you go to the zips in Cheney for breakfast you'll meet a bunch of the old farmers, and retired AF guys that never left.

Spokane is a lot bigger than I remember...seems to be a really nice place, an least for the "older crowd"

I won't be able to meet jhynesrockmtn. I had a great meeting yesterday in Ephrata, Wa. and they want to have dinner tonight. So I'll be staying in beautiful downtown Ephrata tonight. Lunch at Clinkerdagger's then I'll head west.

The River Walk was great. I spent an hour or so walking the entire place. I took a lot of pictures but my iPhone just doesn't do the place justice.
