Ignorant People

The weather here is unseasonably warm so I decided to take my car out of storage from a friends garage and bring it home. A Kia with 2 young guys, which had been following me for a while, started blowing their horn and giving me the finger! I was doing the speed limit and couldn't go any faster anyway because of a car ahead of me.

Its hard to comprehend such ignorance. In 15 years of owning the 911 I have never had this happen before. Usually its the thumbs up. Certainly doesn't make a persons day and its a poor way to start the driving season!

Two ways to deal with them. Ignore them or confront them. Stop your car get out and use your cell phone to take a picture of them and the car. Then drive directly to the police station to make a complaint. It's probably their mom's car.

I would ignore them. If you confront them then you risk getting jumped by them.

Laugh at them , they are driving a KIA.

There's no shortage of asshats in the world.

Ignoring them is usually the best response.

"Porsche Envy" is a real syndrome. My wife coined the phrase when her daily driver was a 997S. It seems to bring out behavior we just never see now that we're driving Volvos. Just Wednesday I had a similar situation. I was in the TT and some 20-something in a Dodge truck was tailgating me so closely all I could see in the mirror was his grill. I'm talking 2 feet at 45 mph. There was a car three car lenghts ahead of me. No where to go. At the next light I got out and went to his window. He opened it and I aaked "What's your F#@KING problem?" He sheep'd down at close range, but replied. "You have a turbo and you drive it like an old lady". I maintained my composure and got back in just about the time the light turned green. I know I should have stayed in my car...but it's not my nature.

This is happening more and more. Every time I take the 911 out for a drive some kids act like *******s to me.

pcardude 02-27-2016 01:00 PM

I think they are thinking I'm rich and young people these days hate rich people.

I'm not rich. I'm actually really really poor. I'm also pissed off and hate kids. Hopefully I'll never go to far.

Smile and wave at them.

It confuses the poop out of them, either they go on their way thinking you're an idiot, or you get to watch their skulls implode, but everytime I've tried it shuts down the situation.

My wife told me to try this, she's right and the reactions are quite amusing.
She works in the mental health field, so it's advice from a pro on mental behaviour.

Yep, we got it the other day. My boy and I were out tooling around in the 914. When we left the red light , we must have intimidated the guy with the whopping 76 hp we were putting down, , cause next thing you know, a Newer Ford Taurus came up on us very aggressively . He pulls up alongside us, gives me a really mean look and then really put the hammer down on that Taurus. It shifted down a gear, and he wrung it out then left us in the dust. " Dad, what was that guys problem ?" my son asks...

Confronting anyone in this day and age could put a bullet in your head.....there are alot of unstable drivers out there waiting for someone to lean on thier last nerve, virtual timebombs waiting to go off.

IGNORE THEM, and stay alive !

fanaudical 02-27-2016 01:14 PM

I run across these people regardless of what I drive.

Last time I had the 911 out I found myself "contending" (in their minds I'm sure) with a couple young guys in a Subie Sti with the chainsaw muffler mod. They were so proud to be "winning".

The other day I was out in my truck (tall 4x4 Ram 1500 Quad Cab) and my son is driving (he's still learning). It's raining and dark. We get into some of the back road twisties with 25mph posted and he slows down accordingly (the truck does NOT corner). Moron in a Honda starts honking and following him too close (can't even see him over the tailgate). We slow for a rough railroad crossing and the guy passes us in the railroad crossing, flipping us off the whole way.

Idiots are everywhere. I sometimes think there should be a technical driving proficiency test and psych eval mandated every five years for license renewal.

That's a teachable moment, if ever there was one. The only thing that would have made it even more enlightening is if Moron had crashed while he was engaging in his douchebaggery!

The OP is from Canada, so a handgun isn't very likely.
But that said I'm up there in self defence and confrontation would still be my last resort.

A very good friend was a career RCMP officer. One day in Charlottetown PEI, while on his way home in his own car in civvies, he stopped to let an old gent shuffle across a cross walk. The fellow in the car behind was leaning on the horn and yelling for the old guy to move it.
Joe, my friend, got out of his car and started to go back to tell the guy to calm down, the old fellow in the cross walk had the right of way. As he approached the car, the fellow started to yell at Joe to get back in his car or he'd "call the fuchin' cops."
Joe's response was , "I am the fuchin' cops!" :D
By the time the old fellow got across the street the loud guy had turned around and was heading back the way he had come.

There be fools everywhere.
Best
Les

I guess some of the idiots from NYC are immigrating to Canada. The other day I was in Manhattan with my S550 standing by the car when an idiot walks up and says "I should throw a can of red paint on that car" I told him I would wait there for him to go buy the paint but I doubt he has any money to buy it with. Working hard to own nice things has become a crime punishable by rude gestures and obnoxious comments.

I suggested a non-confrontational way to handle it.

Me if the driver stuck his foot out of the door I would kick the door against his knee. I've never been hit by someone who can't stand up.

That's level 1, Level II is this:
