Fountain Pens?
I was rummaging around in my dresser and came across my Mt. Blanc fountain pen. I haven't used it in 25 years. I found the ink well and recharged it and it works fine. My wife bought it for me when I made partner in a consulting firm 25 years ago, and I could sign contracts. Long story short, I don't do that anymore. I thought the wifey paid about $100 back then, but I could be wrong.
Checked on the Mt. Blanc website just for the heck of it. Those suckers start at $750!!!I'm going to make sure my Son doesn't toss it in the trash when I die.

The ultimate power tool, so they say - a fountain pen.
What # is on the point? Is it a Fine or a Medium?, etc. I still have my Esterbrook pen from 5th grade...back in '56.

Do not leave it lying on the dash of your car.
Wax internal seal will melt... will leak everywhere. Mine did. MB fixed it gratis, though. |

I love fountain pens and own several, the "nicest" being a silver Cross, gift from the wife.
The problem is, I seem to have forgotten how to write....

I got into them a few years ago and had the same horrible penmanship that I left high school with 20 years ago. i work in a very analog-ish world (computer at my desk but only paper in the lab and in meetings) so I write five or six pages of notes a day. My handwriting is good enough now that anyone (over 40?) can transcribe my script. The youth think it's some exotic code though! Get those pens out and use them!

Go use it! Like many things they age best when used. It's sitting idle that kills them.

MB limited edition pens are crazy investments. I bought my brother an Imperial Dragon fountain about 20 years ago for under $1k. Now it is worth about $12k.

While I see the allure, it is an obsolete piece of equipment for me. I can type 80 wpm on a decent keyboard. I do not write letters by hand. You probably should sell it before nobody wants to pay good money for them anymore. Maybe Tabs needs one!

Aigel's right. I'll offer $90 for the buggy whip/fountain pen.

Too rich for my blood. My father gave me a set of Parker fountain pen and matching mechanical pencil to me when I was maybe in Grade school. It was the best writing instrument. It just flows. I believe he bought it in the late 50s or early 60s. I still have it somewhere? My penmanship has gone to crap, but you all know my typing skill. Now, I carry one of those medium point Japanese roller ball pen. Doesn't leak (usually) and its usually in the car somewhere.
One thing I really like about the fountain pen as a kid was that you can chose the color of the ink. I really like the medium blue color unlike most pens, that was a dark blue. It was cool then, and I think its still cool today. |
