I guess I bought my wife a new leaf blower
Went out and bought this Stihl 450 backpack leaf blower today. I never considered that Vicki would be able to use it, I mean, at 24 pounds it's about 20% of her body weight.
But when I pulled it out of the truck she said, "Oh Honey, you bought me a new strap-on!" (Such is her sense of humor) She wanted to try it right away. We mounted it on her and she took off with it. I expected to find her lying on her back like a turtle with her legs and arms flailing in the air, but she did great! One more job I don't have to do around here!! Win! ![]()

"Nicely Done"... That looks a whole lot better than the typical hand held blower. They get really heavy as you use them.

Just FYI Patrick.... I have an old Echo backpack, and also a Stihl (purchased for my dad, but he never did use it much) that wouldn't start after a few years. Took it in for service at the local top Pro dealer (they sell Stihls, Echo, Scags, etc.)... good stuff. When I picked it up, they recommended using Echo RedArmour 2-cycle oil, and not the Stihl 2-cycle oils I've used forever.... so I now use that in everything. They sell it all .... so I just took their word for it.

Can a person start one of those after it's on your back?
Or do you have to start it and then strap it on?

I have to start mine then strap it on. It would be a nice feature to be able to start it on your back. Probably one out there that does

I know my hand-held Craftsman blower takes plenty of pulls before it ever starts.
If the back-packs are that way...it could be bad doing it while it's on your back.

It would be nice to shut the noise off every now and then without having to dismount it to start again. Does someone make an battery powered back pack blower yet? That would work. If not, someone will by 2035 here in California

Knowing what I know about Stihls... $700 sounded like a real bargain for their top dawg. I see it listed for $1199, and I can wait even longer than you can
..The specs are beastly tho' Particularly with their chainsaws.... A top pro saw is a whole different animal .... Bet that beast is too.... but I'll never know .

I’ve got a 350. Love it. When it starts running poorly, it will be the spark arrester. Grab some pliers and rip it off and all will be well

Speaking from experience, I bet her response would have been different had you bought her a shovel.
Don’t buy her a shovel. |

Ryobi 40 volt. They make 2, and each use 2 of the batteries. There's a 625 cfm, with 5 A.h. batteries that weighs 30 lbs, and a 730 cfm with 6 A.h. batteries that weighs 32.75 lbs.
