This or this
I think maybe the Hilborn style breather is a bit over the top, what do you think?

I'd go with this.
Seriously, the second one will promote better airflow, unless the first one is stuck outside the bodywork and you can pick up some ram effect. Bill K |
Right, thanks
|
I like the Hilborn.
|
Nix on the Hilborn. A scoop inlet looks dumb under a hood.
|
IMO, Hilborn looks cooler but somewhat disproportionate on a mild street engine. Also, both sit behind the radiator so both will ingest pretty warm air. Are there other options?
|
Clean engine. Stick with the open filter, but nothing would look bad on that engine.
|
This. Definitely this.

Go with the second one.

Have you considered "that" instead?
Scoop is goofy unless comes through the hood or has a blower. |
The air cleaner in the second picture is too small for best efficiency. Does the company that sells that make an element that's twice as high?
|
You can probably find and air cleaner at the parts store that will fit.
|
I dig the second one. It fits the engine look.
Hilborn style scoops belong on superchargers with dual carbs. No offense, just my .02. maybe a tunnel ram but velocity stacks look wicked on those. Yeah, I grew up in the 70's.SmileWavy |

but real nice on the SB fords. Next time I make a change, it'll be two small four barrels (if and when I can afford it), |
Kinda like thishttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1457306210.jpg
Not as common on the SBC, but nice. |

This, rather than this.

How about a SBC cross ram like on the 302DZ that was an option on the early Z 28s? |
Dz 28?
Sure, sounds good, also sounds pricey and rare. Not that four webers would be cheap.
|
So it's settled then, no. 2 it is. Then I'll make a nice flower pot out of the Hilborn scoop for my wife since she bought me the smaller breather for Christmas.
She knew, but pretended not to, so as not to offend. She's nice like that, pretending that she thinks I'm smart. I'm sure this only happens at my house, right? |
Can never be TOO BIG..
|
then there is that
|
No scoop. That looks like you are pretending you have a blower ...

I've always thought that the Hilborn style or these http://gearheadzproducts.com/images/...hoodscoop1.jpg Just seemed wrong if they weren't on a supercharger. |

I was surprised when I first saw the whacky crossrams that came on various Chrysler products. The first one that I ever saw had a single tiny carb on either side, but I think it was also a stock setup from something in the 50s. |

I am also in the camp of feeling a scoop looks goofy unless on top of a blower or through the hood. However I also would agree that anything on that engine would look good. On the other hand... what were we talking about? SQUIRREL! |
Prefer the second one, but not a fan of the size or the fins on the top.
I'd vote something more basic... http://i.ebayimg.com/images/i/141006...-1/s-l1000.jpg |
