CHP takes my license

I got pulled over for something very minor but, the CHP officer still needed my license, insurance, and registration. Almost immediately, after getting into his vehicle, he jumps out and runs to my car and says, " here there's an accident, I have to go." Well, The officer gave me my registration and insurance but, forgot drivers license. He left so fast that by the time I discovered my drivers license missing, the officer was long gone.

Looks like I'll need anothe duplicate.

Oh Haha 03-06-2016 01:52 PM

Why not call the CHP and explain? If you get pulled over again, you won't be able to produce it as required.

Dantilla 03-06-2016 02:12 PM

Cop has your name and address. He will most likely make sure you get it back.

A quick call to CHP to ask what you should do would still be in order.

gduke2010 03-06-2016 02:15 PM

Either gall CHP or get a duplicate.

URY914 03-06-2016 03:30 PM

Was it Ponch or John?

dtw 03-06-2016 04:21 PM

Cool story, bro.

gduke2010 03-06-2016 04:27 PM

It was a CHP who was in a big hurry and had more important things than to issue a ticket for no chains. BTW, my Prius with Bridgestones Blizzacks handles better than mine or almost anyone else 4x4.

gduke2010 03-06-2016 04:30 PM

I think it was Johns son. He was a young guy. Also, I was born in the same small town and hospital as Randy Oaks. So, I was a fan of the show.

Call the office nearest to the stop and let them know what happened. If you can remember the officers name and badge number I'll bet they can locate it.

Brando 03-06-2016 07:08 PM

CHP, in Nevada?

He was probably in CA., which is about 10 miles from where he lives.

'zactly. More likely the guy realized later and didn't want to either admit a mistake or do paperwork about it so just trash-canned it.

rwest 03-07-2016 12:46 AM

Another thought is in his hurry, he dropped the license on the way back to your car, maybe go back to the spot and look around?

zehnd 03-07-2016 04:30 AM

He will mail it with your ticket. :)

vash 03-07-2016 06:14 AM

This is the perfect thread to prove one side as correct.

I think CHP will mail him his card.

The cop is using it to empty your bank account, get a loan to buy bullion, etc..

I had a very similar thing happen to me, except the CHP had already written the ticket and I had just signed it; in my case, he tore off all the copies of the ticket and handed them to me without realizing it, so he had nothing to take back to the station :)

yep, that could very well happen

rusnak 03-07-2016 06:04 PM

Well, now you'll just have to move. And leave no forwarding address.

strupgolf 03-07-2016 06:14 PM

Just go to the office, ask what officer was there at the time, ask for your license back, case solved. Not all the dicks are dicks, some have some smarts, and they might figure out what they did, but don't bet on it.

Shaun @ Tru6 03-07-2016 06:26 PM

Go back to the area in which you were pulled over. Speed and drive recklessly for some time, soon enough you will be pulled over for driving to endanger. Then just ask for your license back. Problem solved.

Bill Douglas 03-07-2016 06:28 PM

Lol

CHP: Why were you pulled over?
gduke: I had no chains on my Prius.
CHP: Oh, here it is. It was Officer Xxxx. Please sign here.
gduke: You're giving me a ticket?
CHP: The officer didn't have time to write it since he had an urgent call. We just finished it for him since you came in.
gduke: WTF!
CHP: Well, you know those Prii are monsters on the road. They even outrun police cars! Have a nice day!

The worst part is, by getting pulled over, he delayed me enough that I couldn't go skiing. The accident was just down the road and people were turning back and telling me it would be a 2 hour delay.

Well, maybe it was a good thing he pulled me over, my Prius might have been involved in the accident.

It' s amazing how many people run of the road and burry there cars in snow banks. Never had a problem with the Prius.

Sadly, you're probably right.

that sort of happened to me once.. in the middle of AK,, my buddy got pulled over the state trooper wanted my license as well. he then lost it !!! took almost an hour to find it. he felt so bad he ripped up my buddies ticket .. turns out it blew off his clip board and landed in the side pocket of his cruiser.. Hey duke,, where were you going skiing ? pretty windy this weekend up here in VCity

gduke2010 03-07-2016 09:10 PM

On my way to Kirkwood on Sunday. Usually, go there on Sunday's and Heavenly on Saturday.

Laneco 03-08-2016 10:24 AM

I was working with one of our state troopers doing logbook checks based on probable cause speeding. We pulled over a truck for 78 in a 55 - which in case your interested, is going to get you a ticket. I did the logbook and inspection paperwork while the trooper ran the license and wrote the ticket. We had the license sitting on the center console. Danged if I didn't bump it and the license slide into a crevice and fell inside of the console... I mean INSIDE the damn thing!

It took me close to half an hour to take the console apart enough to get the license out... At that point, the trooper tore up the ticket. Felt it was the least we could do at that point.

Man, I felt like a complete idjit...
