BaT Exclusive: LT1-Powered Euro 1986 Porsche 928 | Bring a Trailer

Chevy power seems to make a lot of sense....

Nice car. Just don't change your username to sniper.

My thoughts exactly. Need to post more then cosmetics pics to tell if it's a good deal or not.

I hope you completed a PPI (at any price range that is), and has fresh maintenance completed. 32 valve engines are more involved then the early cars, and not that really DIY unless you have strong mechanical concepts. Slush box sucks, and those polished sewer lids .

Okay, I promise i'm done hating. The body looks clean?

EDIT:
I will warn the brain trust to stay away from that one.

Actually the auto tranny is a from Mercedes and is overbuilt for this car. Not really many issues.

livi 03-14-2016 12:51 AM

Excellent! Beautiful ride!

slow&rusty 03-14-2016 05:11 AM

Congratulations! I have always been a huge fan of these amazing GT cars, better than anything Mercedes, BMW or Jag offered at the time.

If I was not recovering from financial heartache on my 560SEC that has nickel and dimed me for years, I would have a late 928S4 with a third pedal in my garage.

Seahawk 03-14-2016 05:36 AM

Nice, Sandy!

Beautiful car, you will really enjoy it!

if you have ever turned a wrench, you will enjoy working on the car, it's well-engineered and easy to work on.

buying a car that has been well kept up was very smart. Many of these amazing cars have followed the 944 path, cheap enough for any idiot to buy one but parts are too expensive for the car to be kept up properly.

That's actually good to know!

I've always liked 928's. I remember my dad just about getting whiplash pointing one out going the opposite direction during a cross-country trip when I was 17. I made several trips to the local Porsche dealership to sit in them and take pictures.

The usual complaints I here are the electrical systems. Lots going on there, but if you've got that all sorted out I think you've got a real gem!

Swap in a turbo Cayenne motor.

it would be easier and cheaper to build a 5.4L stroker motor to get the same or more 500+ hp.

The Kuhn twin turbo would probably be the best way to get to 600-800hp.

Nice looking. My Ex BIL had one. Electrical doodad parts are virtually impossible to find. Get a parts car as you WILL need it.

dewolf 03-14-2016 01:54 PM

I've had 7 928's. All been great reliable cars. Yours has maintenance history so should be good to go.

strupgolf 03-14-2016 03:42 PM

Wow, that car looks great. Hope you have fun with it. I'd like to have one too.

Can you guys elaborate on some of the highlights of 928 maintenance sticker shock?

crustychief 03-14-2016 04:36 PM

I have a 9 page invoice from Dec 2014 totaling 8900 dollars because he had the car gone through and re-sealed and new gaskets from head to tail so it wouldn't leak onto his C4S. ( he has a neat lift in one of his garages). in July of 2015 he had the timing belts replaced, all associated stuff with that including all new cooling system ( except radiator) and new drive belts. I am convinced the maintenance has never been deferred.
Shaun, I did pay enough. but i reviewed the receipts from the last three years and paid him less than that total. I am pretty happy.
