Use it all the time. Like others, love it and will more than likely not use a taxi (given the choice) again.

Agree. I just used Uber again, local ride to pickup car from shop, total 7 miles. The cost was something like $10. The guy was a FT Uber driver and said that he works 10 hrs a day for $60 average. I left a $5 on the seat as I exited and didn't give him a chance to deny if he was so inclined. I think being an Uber driver makes much more sense for folks who have regular jobs with a commute. They are already going that way, why not pickup some cash on the way.

So much for taxi drivers being though of as the "unsung heroes of mass transportion". :D SmileWavy

I've started tipping, but I've also noticed that the quality of car and driver had dropped a bit. Although, I was picked up this weekend in a Mazdaspeed3 (the driver admitted that he was probably losing money with the thirsty engine and premium gas)...

I saw a tiny 4 door hatch with an Uber sticker in the window (maybe a Yaris?) How can you claim that that will carry 5 adults?

I wont use Uber or any concurring service to normal taxis/cabs.
Here in Germany a well known slogan of a gadget mart is: "Geiz ist geil", meaning "Greed is cool". I wont support that.

If someone thinks he/she looses money on being an Uber driver ... then wtf? Stupid or what?

Just resurrecting this thread to ask a quick Uber question.
I haven't needed a taxi in years but figured what the heck I will load the app "just in case" I need it in a pinch.

So, I'm setting up the app and of course it asks for my credit card number... now that shouldn't surprise me because I know that is how the driver gets paid.

And I bank online AND shop at Amazon, eBay etc.

Just seemed weird giving my CC info to a smart phone app.

Anyone have any trouble with that?

I think it's normal.

It would appear my son gave them my cc number....

A930Rocket 07-09-2016 06:47 PM

lol. I've known for years when my daughter used Uber at school.

Uber exists in the Philippines, and it was a Godsend to get around that way...

So you are saying it is no problem?

I know I am being paranoid but when putting your credit info out on the airwaves better safe than sorry.

gprsh924 07-12-2016 12:28 PM

What's the difference between an online merchant and an app? There is none.

I use uber/lyft/via almost every day. Never a credit card issue.

I bet your cc is more at risk when you hand it over to the server at your favorite restaurant and they disappear with it for 5 mins.

Can't use Uber or Lyft here in Austin, the city ran them off.

We LOVED our Uber experience.......A taxi is like riding in the back of a police car.

RRico 07-12-2016 05:33 PM

I have zero problems. Aside from my son's aversion to walking/subway/public transit.

Question for you guys; Tip, or No? and if No, then why?

I'll start with my answer. Im 44, so I was raised to always tip on service. This is a service. I understand that the millenials are cheap as hell and wont tip, "because they deserve everything given to them..." Recently, Uber got sued and lost because they were saying the tip is included, which it is not. Uber still refuses to allow tipping thru their app, even tho their main competitor Lyft provides that option.

Is this news to you? Have you been tipping all along? Are you Mr. Pink?

aigel 07-13-2016 08:43 PM

Being a driver sounds like a total bum deal. Pay is low while you are driving your car into the ground. May as well deliver Pizza. I think it is starting to dawn on many drivers that they end up with a wreck of a car in a couple years and not much money to show for it. Once the novelty wears off, drivers will be harder to come by and as you see, they are already lowering their standards for the age of the car. Soon we will be back to clapped out rides and only the prime service will still be nice but $$$.
