I don't know what level of "strict regime" camp he'll be in. But in the no-return camps, their version of doing a month in the hole is a month in a concrete enclosure, where only your head and arms are exposed and you only get to eat what you can catch with your hands and then feed yourself. That's your toilet too. Better hope for rain if you want to drink anything. Really, really bad place to piss off the regime.

ahhaha he better toughen up, and stop crying then. :D

Maybe since he fed into the regimes propaganda he'll be taken care of inside?

And if you're important enough, you get executed with multiple anti aircraft cannon, then your body incinerated with flame throwers. Like Kim did to his uncle not long ago.

People who go there without really special protected status (like Rodman) are fatally stupid, period.

From what I heard a church he attends was going to pay him 10K for stealing the poster. So he is a professional thief. If he stole something in many middle east countries they would just chop off his hand and be done with him.

I wonder just what the punishment would be if he stole state owned property in Singapore or Russia?

biosurfer1 03-17-2016 06:39 AM

If you go to place like NK and try to steal something, where you KNOW they are watching you 24/7, then you are asking for what he got.

Wilywilly 03-17-2016 07:37 AM

He needs to be nominated for the Darwin Award this year.

I say tack on another 15 for wearing a bow tie.

Gee, a church paying a person to steal? I won't comment further. My former wife used to lead group trips to Russia in the late '70s, early '80s. She told me they were staying in a hotel in the republic of Georgia on one of the trips when one person in the group lost his/her way in the hotel. The person was walking down a hallway and opened up one of the doors. It opened into a small room with half a dozen guys wearing headphones & sitting at desks. It was obvious the rooms were bugged. I'm sure the same still goes on in certain countries. As for this guy, I agree he doesn't only need to be nominated for a Darwin Award. He is a sure recipient of one. What a blubbering, brainless looser!

livi 03-17-2016 07:50 AM

I donīt get it. There must be missing information in this case. Not even the Forest Gumps of this World would travel to NK AND commit a criminal offense. Might as well head for Syria and sign up at the suicide-bomb class.

rusnak 03-17-2016 10:41 AM

What kind of idiot steals a poster anyway? It's a GD poster. Take a picture.

Are you saying that soldiers didn't cry in ww1 or ww2, or that you just have never seen pictures of them crying??

Please say the second...

And in fact people do travel to Syria for suicide bomb classes. Not a close analogy to what this guy did, but just goes to show, people do things you can't imagine anyone would be stupid enough to do.

In this case, what I consider stupid, for an American with no special protection, is traveling to North Korea at all. Once you're there, you're ripe for the picking. If the government wants a propaganda tool, then it will find a reason, true or untrue, to arrest you. Steal a poster, take a photo of something sensitive, look too closely at something, have sensitive books in your luggage (a Bible, perhaps?), leave one of those books in your hotel room, say the wrong thing to someone, or simply have some false story invented by the government.

The fact is, we have no idea what he did or if he did anything. His "confession" was coerced, maybe have been entirely or partly invented. Do you think there is such a thing as due process, legal protections, any standard of truthfulness, in North Korea? He could simply have been a randomly picked pawn. Such things have happened many times to Americans traveling there. To the point that, again, to go there is the act of a fool.

First, the Navy guys blatting, now this turd out of his OWN stupidity.
I do not get it!

Where did the men go?
Is everyone becoming hipsters, touchy-feely, effeminate pussies?
I never saw pix of WW1 men, WW2 men Korea men, Vietnam men crying their eyes out.

That's right! Back in the day, REAL men knew enough to just bottle those emotions up and wait until after a night of drankin' when they could go home and release the hurt and anger onto their wife and kids!

He's a kid who was just informed that he is to spend the next 15 years at hard labor in the worst country in the world. It might as well be a death sentence, as far as he's concerned. I don't think I'd be too happy, either.

Yeah- I don't think he was crying because he suddenly felt sympathy for the poster he tore down. Which makes me think- I bet he will be released within 2 years tops in a political gesture, perhaps even one. This kid won't get the full shaft, even in NK.

Edit- Replace "kid" with fully grown adult of legal drinking age learning an important (hold your nose and say) "Liiiife Lessssson" :)

A life lesson is getting a fine from the cops or grounded by your parents or losing your licence or getting a small charge or getting a punch in the face.

15 years for a poster is not a life lesson. It's polticial bull****

I'd like to see you going a little over the speed limit in your 951 and instead of a couple hundred dollar speeding ticket, 10 years hard labor. Life lesson??

I'd belive this before anything else. All the info we have is coming from the North Korean government.

Meanwhile they carry on as they always have. They really are overdue for a "Spring".

In Virginia- I could get reckless driving for doing 15mph over the limit. Several hundred in fines, higher insurance rates. No one goes to jail.
Catch me at 100- 120- I'm probably going to jail for night or two. Higher fines- license suspended/pulled.

I agree- It's political BS.

I guess I could haul my car to NK and get 15 years- or some ISIS controlled territory, and have explosive cord wrapped around my head and detonated to behead me.

I could also go to some mid eastern countries- steal something- and get my hands cut off (or so I've heard).

Point is- I have a relative idea of the consequences.
Even without pushing buttons- there is not much to gain by visiting certain places- and much to lose. That's his lesson. I've got my own lessons in life to learn- but- his lesson is not one of them.

Fair. Nope.
and- I'm staying in Virginia.
