CA title fraud - this guy did everything right and still got scammed.

Just when you think you can stay ahead of the scammers...

Guy buys a car with cash at the DMV to verify clean title and the car STILL gets repossessed due to a CA lien.

Typical local news amateurism. They took twice as long to tell that story as they needed and included zero info on what action was taken against the seller, whether he was in on it or was also a victim. Might be a better story if they people know the guy is now in prison or facing charges and lawsuits. No word at all on that.

Happy ending, at least he gets the car back, as he should.

I'm guessing that's not typically going to be the outcome with this scam.

Indeed, the state of journalism is just tragically horrible.

Well he was able to effectively receive a new clean title on the car. I would assume that would make the CA lien holding little water. AZ combats that very issue by not issuing a physical title until the loan is payed off... would a carfax disclose the lien?????

A lot of states are ass backwards when it comes to vehicle titles. Several states do not even require a notarized signature on the back of it.

Read the shoddy article and still was left wondering. Does this mean I would need to contact 3 News if I had a title fraud incident?

I, too, would like to know the particulars. You know, for... Science.
