CL Fraud - how to deal with it?
Listed my 930 on Craig's List and it wasn't long before someone duplicated the listing and is offering my car on CL in another state... at a great price of course. Bad news is there's probably a deposit taking fraud in the making here.
Bogus seller is providing the information below. Surly the phone number is a Googlevoice number to hide behind. craigslist 5485396838 You can reach me at +1 305-501-6610 James lee Wilson 11258 Coimbra Ln, Bonita Springs, FL 34135-5368 The bogus CL ad was posted in Jacksonville, NC. TY to 14Carrot for taking the time to let me know he saw the ad. I've hit the "prohibited" button a few times and advised CL management but the post has remained. Were it only I on the receiving end of this, someone else offering my car for sale would be amusing. Certainly anyone looking for a 930 would know these cars and the market and immediately sense the price not fitting this particular car. The 2 issues that are concerning: 1) This sort of sh** must effect market value to some degree so it's pollution. More importantly... 2) those who end up putting a deposit on offers like this end up with air. Can't just ignore this. So what to do? |
Report the listing.

Not real familiar with how CL works, but could you put up another ad in the same section that points out the scam?

Many police departments have fraud departments.
Report it to the PD in Bonita Springs. |
Too late for now, but watermark any pictures in a fairly obvious non-cropable way

All interesting ideas to consider. Thanks for input guys.
I did let CL management know about the situation 2 days ago. Looks like they did get the message. Below is a screen shot of the bogus ad page if searched by # right at this moment. Had another fellow (not a Pelican) contact me who saw my ad in Hemmings and the bogus one. Great to experience people who care enough to take the time to let you know about this sort of thing. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1458421011.jpg |
