i'm the lamest used vehicle buyer. lucky i've havent been ripped off yet.
just transferred the title over to me. did it at the AAA office..buy the way, i think AAA stands for Angels Angels Angels!! just because they do wonders keeping me out of the DMV office. my entire visit took seven minutes.
the lady lectured me on the finer points of used car buying..she said Get a copy of the updated registration, copy of the seller DL as well as a bill of sale..this is all if the bank still holds the title. she said i took a big chance.. happy it worked out and i got by unscathed..i got a decent feel of the seller, and the AAA lady said that is naive. okay okay okay. she also told me that earlier today some lady showed up with a fake smog cert..she said it looked like a awards certificate..landscape orientation, with a fancy border..and hand written statement saying the car passed smog with flying colors. that lady needed her spidey senses tuned up. yikes. i'll be smarter next time.

We don't have a crazy registration system here in Fl - no smog or anything. I've not bought a private party vehicle, but when I sold I owned the car but didn't have a title (found it a month later...). Met buyer at city hall/tax office (love small towns too) gave the office folks a copy of my current registration, handed him the keys, took the cash, went out side adn removed my license plate, and left. He was out about 10 minutes later with a new plate, etc.
That said, I too love AAA. Got stuck in the 356 on the way home from work at 10pm Sep 19 2005, none of their local contractor flat beds were available, they were prepared to send one down from Valdosta Ga to get me in G'ville Fla (about 2 hours drive). As it happened, an old guy stopped just as I got off the phone, turns out he was the service manager to the local Porsche dealership back in the late 60s/early 70s, and recognized the car He came back with tools and a light 30 minutes later and we got me running again enough to limp home. Unfortunately the issues I discovered trying to get it to live again at that point have made the car a long term project, and I haven't worked on it since....

, what did you buy that's more important. ![]() Seriously, AAA is the beat for stuff like that. Usually there's no more then 10 min waiting around here unlike the DMV, I being a tent so I can camp out even with appointments. |

What was it that they handled for you? I have had AAA for years but there is probably a lot that they offer that I'm not aware of.

I think what Cliff is saying is that transferring title is easy and no waiting unlike going to the DMV. Its a waiting nightmare around these parts.

they were very vigilant with seeing your membership card.

i just get the title.
have the seller sign it, then I fill in the rest. never had a seller that could not produce a title. the back is a bill of sale. has price and ODO reading.
