Aussie F1
Great race! Lots of drama, some great results for some of the newer teams. A spectacular crash. This race had it all. Very good start to 2016 season. Hope they are all this good.

Yeah... I thought it was pretty good as well. The tyre regs seem to have added a new twist. I can't believe Alonso got out of that wadded up wreck on his own!

Yes, a good race. Still the predictable winners 1/2 but only because Ferrari screwed up. The Alonso crash was scary & it is a testament to great crash safety design that he walked away.

You know something, the first round of the 2016 season already showed that F1 has some things going for it. The new young drivers are a class act.

Yep. Despite being hit by Alonso, Gutierez's first concern was the health of Alonso. I do think it was just a racing incident: no ill intent on the part of either driver, just a misjudgement that is easy to make at racing speed.
|
it was very good to see a driver show such genuine concern for another.

Really hard to believe what strategy Ferrari used. Somebody needs to get reamed over that one.
Haas got really lucky. I hope it helps them attract some sponsors. Alonso should go buy a lottery ticket. He's on a roll. JR |
Also a very good race for young Jolyon Palmer in the new Renault. 11th place in your debut is pretty good. Nice to see the yellow paint scheme back.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1458572302.jpg

Good race! Still I canīt shake a feeling it will be same old story up front this season. If only Rosberg would get ahead of Hambob it would be something.

Alonso "It's unfortunate because I think we might need a new engine and ancillaries".... Ya think ?
As a side note, it's messed up that engine allocation is decreased in cases like that. IMO it's messed up that it is limited at all, but that's not a reliability issue on the engine part ;-) |
I understand what you are saying, but you also don't want drivers crashing out on purpose when their engine allocation is out and they are out of the points...

Since the championship is a foregone conclusion, I won't get too excited about Rosberg, Ham, Vettel, etc. I'll pretty much check in to see how the young guys are doing. I think it's great that so many younger drivers look so promising.

A radical thought, when reading Jos Capito's comments today. He did not rule out the possibility of VW into F1, only laid out the logical barriers. Auf Wiedersehen, Honda?

I find F1 to be pretty boring these days, and I usually fast-forward through the middle 1/2 of the race. I do find it challenging to understand tire selections and pit strategies, the undercut, etc. I give a lot of credit to the guys calling the races live (I watch the SkySports feed). They must have a pretty good crew reviewing things and talking into their ears.
The cars don't seem any louder to me this year. I thought they would, with the dual exhausts. Looks like we're set for faster cars next year, which is great news. SkySports interviewed Gene Haas during the race and asked him about the new radio regulations... he seemed pretty dumbfounded at everything they asked him. Not sure if he's just a dolt, or possibly he was star-crossed for being interviewed. Pretty stunning result to finish 6th. Simply amazing! |

In reality, they are withing a dB and a half of the old normally aspirated car, so I've read, so the difference is more one of character than volume. Watching an F1 car on TV, or God forbid a computer, doesn't compare in any way to watching one in person. That's why I always found it funny to listen to the complaints of people that didn't like the new sound, when they had never actually been to an F1 race. JR |
