Until they take a cap in their ass or a serious beating which OP would have gladly administered.

I hear what you are saying but tee-pee'ing houses has been going on for decades.

This is the order of magnitude we are speaking of.

good examples went away when a sitting President got head from an intern in the oval office and lied to congress about it. things have been going down hill since.

Ya some teen goth kid hocked a loogie on the hood of my Boxster once. It washed off easily and I figure what goes around comes around... There are bigger trespasses than this.

Agree.

Gum on the windshield was a perfect delivery for whatever message the odd ball was hoping to deliver.

Pissed off Brando, a little thrill from the risk for the perp. (street justice downside in getting caught by the minion who owns the windshield.)

He will grow up someday. The fact he did not harm the car is promise.

I know how you feel

Back in the summer of 2012 i parked my 911 on the main street of a small but "summer time" lake town over night. My buddy and I went out on his sailboat and came back the next afternoon. Some punk had walked up on the back bumperette, then onto the whaletail where he stomped all over, then jumped onto the roof where he scratched the paint, then hopped down hard onto the fender and dented that (passenger side). Repairs totalled slightly over $10K.
I'm fairly calm guy, and try to look at the bright side of life. It's just metal and glass while my health has not been compromised. Of course, I was really disappointed to say the least! I wrote a post in the local Craigslist rants and raves. I basically called the guy out as someone who did something real low to a hard working person who is no different than any other car guy with a Chevelle SS or Mustang etc. He did something which will always speak to his character and I'm happy to be nothing like him. That was the jist of it. The post was removed only 2 or 3 days later, so I figure I must have hit a nerve. Posts are removed if someone flags it for some reason. Anyhow, i got my car fixed and have learned a lesson too. I won't leave that car out of secure parking anymore.

I firmly believe in karmic retribution. Yeah, the little pipsqueej could have done worse. I guess maybe when they step it up the next time they'll do more harm to whomever's property. I asked around with neighbors earlier this evening and they confirmed - some less than savory types have moved in on that side of the complex over the past couple months. Starting to think a motion-activated camera is not a bad idea.

With people like Trump on the news and leading in the polls, it just can't surprise any of us that the minions are doing things like putting gum on strangers' cars. Maybe that's called "trickle down irresponsibility".

Perhaps that connection is too tenuous but with each passing day - particularly during this election cycle - I get more and more worried that our leaders are failing to set good examples and so I think these gum and poo style incidents are symptomatic of a leadership vacuum and will only be increasing in frequency. Lead by example, people. It's the least we can do.
where were you when clintoon was sticking ceegars in interns and lying about it?????

leadership went to shyte decades ago........

Install the cameras if you must but don't let something like this tarnish your view of your new neighbors.
The person that did this may have been someone that was careless when he discarded his gum. Or he may have intentionally targeted your car.

Either way you'll never know for sure.

Hey Brando, I don't know how you survive in OC with an attitude like that. Gum? Really?

I lived in OC for nearly 30 years. Going back and forth between Montana and OC was quite shocking. Talk about 2 different worlds! I learned to just put my blinders on and be oblivious to the people around me while in OC. It was the only way to not get riled up about everything.

In April, 1988 I left San Diego for Patuxent River, Maryland. I was in my 1968 912.

I had a lot of time so I did a sine wave course across the US...from San Diego I drove up through Washington State, down thought Idaho into Nevada, over to Arizona (Sierra Vista), then back roads to Deming, NM then North again.

Even though it is on the Interstate, Deming probably didn't see a lot of 20 year old 912s. Stayed the night in Deming. I stopped at a small diner early in the morning before I headed north on Route 180.

There was a gal about my age with her Grandfather sitting along the window booths that looked out on the small highway where I had parked the 912. When I got up to leave, the grandfather got up and followed me out.

It had snowed, rare for April, overnight so there was a dusting on the mountains north of Deming. The diner had the two door set up where you had to open one door into a small holding area, then push out into the cold.

I held the door open for the grandfather, his granddaughter stayed inside.

"What it is?" was the first question he asked me.

So I told him.

"That car is beautiful."

We spoke for a few minutes. He was a 2nd generation legal immigrant from Chile. He had farmed east of of Deming along the Rio Grande his whole life.

He was one of those guys that are just natty, with a perfect, no nonsense look his his eye. His cowboy hat was white and spotless, his plaid shirt and khakis pressed and fit him like a skinny glove, the brown cowboy boots polished.

It was nippy so he asked me where I was going.

So I told him.

"Wish I was going with you..."

I can honestly say that I watched him in the rear view mirror has I drove away and he never took his eyes off the car. I thought of him a bunch that trip.

Remember those guys, those encounters, when the gum toting, disrespectful douches appear (and they will).

Only way to stay sane.

Exactly. It's hilarious to see people try to ascribe bad behavior to the supposed political climate. Hell, I heard that someone got sucker-punched at a drive-in once when Ike was president.

Of course, vandalism of any kind always sucks.

On a side note, I've never seen a 911 dash that cracked-up in my life. What did you do, put it in a pizza oven?

HAA. Yes, actually. the car sat in my parents' driveway for about 3 years in Riverside. Before that, the PO (3rd owner, 4th owner?) parked it outside too. It's on the "to do" list while posting for sale.

You have pictures of the Targa?

I'll be in the market fairly soon.

At the house we lived in right after I got married was about a mile form a local high school. The neighborhood had lots of kids. We only had a two car garage so the Porsche and the wife's car were in the garage and my poor El Camino had to sit in the driveway.

Some local punk I nicknamed the mad spitter would leave a big loogie on the windshield of my Elky a few time per year. I never figured out who he was or why he did it.

One thing is certain... "The mad spitter" was a loser.
