Transfer case leak...Replace whole case?
My brother owns a 2009 Lexus RX350. Took it in for typical maintenance and they came back and said he has a transfer case leak and they recommend replacement...of the case. I guess if there was a legit leak maybe a new seal? But a compete case replace? Seems excessive. Granted it might be a bear to get at - no idea. Wanna charge him $2300 to reseal.

Remind me tomorrow, I'll ask my brother.
He runs the shop for one of the largest Toyota dealers in S Fl. I'm assuming it's a Toyota part. |
2,300 to reseal... I bet the majority of that is labor to remove it...

Most dealerships R&R parts, they don't actually repair anything. Unless the case is cracked and is a material that cannot be welded, it should be repairable. I would get a second opinion at a quality independent shop.

Not knowing what is wrong its impossible to provide any details but there are various seals and repair sleeves available for the transfer case.
