A Bakersfield boy. I really thought he'd pull through, but pneumonia kicked him down. Always one of my favorites, I drive by his old house when I go fishing on the Kern. RIP Merle, thanks for the tunes!

Yep, love his stuff... also love the Bakersfield sound... tricked my wife into staying over one night in Bakersfield on a trip up north and we went to Buck Owens Crystal Palace.
Saw an hour long interview of Mr Haggerd, dude was the real deal.

When the wind blows in Bakersfield the tumble weeds roll on through town. Flat hot and dusty. Scrabble hard and poor..
Sacramento, Stockton, Modesto, Merced, Fresno Visilia and Bakersfield.....bin through em all on old route 99. Before there ever was an Interstate 5....

One of my favorite songs, with three of the best, Willie, Merle, and Townes.

Whenever work and life got too hectic, I could always throw on Merle's "Big City" and all would be right again with the world.

A couple of them came close on a good day, but they are gone as well.
RIP, Mr Haggard.

One of the few true outlaws of country. A true talent. The Bakersfield and Austin sound really made country great.
Here's to Merle! 'Sing me back home'.
