For business - I have no problems flying. However if the trip is under 400 miles, sometimes it makes more sense to drive. This is especially true traveling from Chicago to Detroit.

Pretty much the same for me. With traffic, I live 2.5 hours from all the DC airports, including BWI. Factor in getting there at least an hour early, then a nominal 2 hour east coast flight, get a rental, drive to where I am going and I'm at 6 hours if everything goes smoothly.

I can drive to Charlotte in 6 hours and hit all the locations of the rest of the family/friends in another 2.

For northeast travel I take the train.

I would drive anywhere...
but time always determines...
The one I will drive is Vegas is 5 1/2 hours....
When you live in the middle of nowhere ... the only way out is to fly

Anything under 5 hours driving. Out of Chicago you're gonna spend 4 hours on airport baloney. At 5 hours driving it takes an equal amount of time to fly or drive. I don't mind flying though, been doing it weekly for 20 years.

8 hours driving is too much for me... ..because you have to drive 8 hours back too. If I fly that it takes 5... ... And that's 6 hours more out of my week, (+3 out and +3 back) time I don't have.

Family along?
6-7 hour drive max.
No family for the ride?
Start early (4am), drive for 14 hours. Shake off the road fog, find food, beer and sleep.
Repeat as necessary.
If travelling across the prairies, I fly. Just not that interesting of a drive.
Love driving through the mountains before the motorhomes wake up.

Commercial fly vs. drive? 4 1/2 hours of drive time is the cut off for me. (TSA hassles, pre-boarding, parking blah, blah...sucks). And Charlotte has the MOST convenient parking of any major airport on the East Coast. I can park in hourly lot and be in the terminal and at the TSA line in under 10 minutes. Despite that, I would still prefer to drive.
I travel between Charlotte and Atlanta frequently. Without the PeachPass express lane it would be close to 5 hours on a bad day. And I would be flying frequently. Right now I am driving and it takes me around 4 hours.

500 miles is my limit. I get anxiety being stuck up in a car for a long time (even with frequent stops)
