Need to buy a dishwasher, advice?

Needs to be stainless finish, built-in style and want a high end brand but doesn't have to be the Ferrari of DWs.

Any experience with Bosch? They look good on paper, mid to upper priced, yada/yada...

Any brands that are great or conversely are shyte? TIA.

Buy a Bosch Dennis. They make a fine product, even the lower end Bosch are good units. The more money you fork out, the more features but many are useless.

Yes Denis Bosch. But talk to the sales people who know. A lot of Bosch is rebranded OEM rubbish, but their good stuff is great (their German stuff is great I should say).

We gave away a Bosch from 89' when we remodelled the kitchen, it still worked w/o issues. New one is Bosch as well, works like a charm. Never a issue and quieter than Whirlpool.

Keep it simple stupid, the less to break or go wrong and repair. What you want is your dishes washed and not to win a Gran Prix.

Don't buy an Electrolux! They are quiet, but ours started leaking after about 4 years in spite of the original high price. We replaced it with a Bosch unit that seems to be just as quiet and is working well. Only time will tell which is the better unit.

Denis, we bought KitenAid appliances for our recent kitchen remodel. The dishwasher is very nice Quiet like I've never heard in a dishwasher before (weak pun intended). I would highly recommend KitchenAid.

Don't buy Kenmore Elite. Ours is total garbage despite being a "premium" model. It washes well but is constantly having some sort of electrical or mechanical problem. I believe it's a rebadged Whirlpool so avoid those too.

Just went through this a month or two ago. Dishwashers are priced by decibel level and the amount of stainless steel they contain. A stainless tub with decibel rating under 48 will be expensive. I'd steer clear of the ones with touchpads on top of the door. Too much chance for them to get wet or steamed with each cycle. I also think simpler is better. My last dishwasher died because the control board went bad. Everything else worked fine, but it was not cost-effective to buy a new control board.

And make sure you run it before you button the whole thing up. My new one had a hose clamp that wasn't tight enough and leaked as soon as we turned it on. Very irritating, but easier to DIY fix than to return or call for service.

I think there was already a thread like this.

We have a Bosch from 2001 and it still runs great, quietest dishwasher I ever....heard.

Can't tell you how many times we've opened the door only to realize it's running

We also thought Bosch looked good on paper. Bought one about five years ago. It is a piece of unmitigated crap. The reason these are so quiet, two different repair people have told me, is because the pumps are not powerful at all. Therefore, to get our dishes clean, we have to run the thing on its longest cycle, which does the opposite, obviously, of saving water and electricity. It's also needed expensive repairs on two different occasions. We've now spent its purchase price on fixing the thing. Next time there's a problem, out it goes, to be replaced by something like a Kitchen Aid.

What model is yours? I wonder if it was "rebranded OEM rubbish" as Bill Douglas mentioned above.

We have an old Maytag portable dishwasher that my wife hates because it's noisy. We've taken to running it at night after we've gone to bed as you can't hear it in the back of the house in the bedroom. We've been here since '85 and it's our second one in that time. My brother remodeled his kitchen some years ago and put in a Bosch. He's since replaced it with another one.
I may look into putting some Dynamat like material inside the panels on ours to quiet it down a little but I don't mind the noise it makes. It's the sound of work being done that I don't have to do.

Whatever you are buying, take a look at the utensils holder.

Who ever design the one on my GE Café (which I got to match the stove/fridge) should be shot. Except for the small spoon, all others are flopping around and they have the balls to mentioned "make sure that the utensils don't touch each other"

Good points all, thanks for the real world experience. Heading to Sears today to look some over, they carry a huge assortment including Bosch. Are all newer Bosch of lower quality? We seem to have some divergent experience on this thread concerning quality/longevity.

After breaking out the soldering iron TWICE to repair my Bosch I bought a Miele, put it on a Siemens surge protected breaker and never looked back.

My sister has had some issues with her Bosch. I put in a Miele a year or so ago and haven't had any issues. I really like the 3rd, top drawer.

I liked our Bosch. We have moved into a house with an Asko, and I think its inferior. That being said, the Asko is 10 years old and still running like a champ.......

Not sure if its the same South of the border but up-here if you buy Sears an extended warranty and don't use it, you get your money back in Sears gift card.
