Chipmunks!!

That's it I've had it. I've tried a Have a heart trap for three years now and no luck. My garden is over run with these varmints. I need a way to just be rid of them. No I can't use dynamite. But I don't mind some kind of poison. Ideas?

I've used:
a cat
rat traps
a pellet gun
cayenne pepper down their hidy holes

The cat was the most effective.

My dog would never stand for varmints in the garden. Squirrel generally does not get more than one chance to run along the top of the fence in my yard, as it tends to be a fatal mistake.

Hmmm rat traps... less risk to those damn stray cats than poison.

The rat traps were a lot of work, but they were fairly effective.

I have the same problem, and have been taking them out with my 22LR w/scope. They are smart and fast...will only sit still for maybe 2 seconds...hardly enough time to get a bead on em. Traps don't work..they are smarter than that.

Use .22 Shorts or Longs. Keep it subsonic and the neibours won't hear it over the other gunfire. (Joisey...)

Get a 5 gallon plastic bucket. Fill 3/4 with water. Put a small wooden ramp to the top and place a few sunflower seeds on the ramp. Pour the rest of the seeds into the water. Make sure the water is completely covered with seeds. Leave overnight. The varmits will drown. Cruel, but works every time.

I like the little guys!!
It's the tree rats (squirrels) that i battle.........
A neighbor had good luck against both with a mechanical falcon, it moved and made noises........
My traps have caught 14 tree rats so far this year.
Good luck!

Go to a shelter and find a fixed ferrel cat, also known as a barn cat.

They are not pets and are hard to adopt out.

Put a doggie door in the garage with litter box to encourage it to not **** in your flower beds.

Add a bed and water source.

Tried this with no luck at all. I've considered the quiet .22 but as has been said it's jersey, gunfire not a good idea. But I may be able to borrow a pellet gun.

I had this exact same issue with squirrels. Got fed up, bought a Ruger Impact .22 air rifle. I shot about 30 squirrels last year. This year, I have not seen one in my yard! I kid you not. Very effective.

It make a little noise, but nothing you would think of as a gun shot.

Had the same problem with ground squirrels on my property. I bought an air rifle and invited a couple of neighbors over with theirs. I think we eliminated around twenty of them that afternoon. Since then I've not had a problem except for a couple of new renegades each year. It seems like after you shoot one and leave it out for awhile, the others take notice and figure the area isn't a safe place to hang around.

I've got wrist rocket by the back door for when the squirrels get into the bird feeders. I've got variety of "ammo' from 1/2 wine bottle corks (don't fly very straight, but not-lethal) to roundish lava rocks (light so won't damage fence, feeder, etc) to the small marbles sold as WR ammo. Very lethal with a full draw. When I get a chance I'm going to make a tennis ball cannon just for fun...should start a new thread on that...
