What's up with the people who sell used parts here on Pelican?

I never look there as I almost never need anything for my cars. Now that I am putting this 72 hot rod together, I need a few items. A couple of guys never return my email or PMs and they are local. Some of them even like local pick-ups. WTF? I just want to see the damn thing, buy it and be done with it. The hunt has never been the fun part of anything. The build is a lot more fun. I noticed its the same guys that are always getting mass amount of stuff for sale. What the heck do these guys do, they go and buy these junk car and off load them here (make a few bucks?)? I am looking for a simple duck tail deck lid grill. Period correct is great, but not all that important.

Maybe try one of the huge auto swap meets (Pomona)?
They used to have a super cool 'German autofest' in Ventura which was a actually giant Porsche-fest (I believe I bought a oil filter from Wayne at the Pelican booth).
Kinda bummed they don't do it any more... they have a big swap meet out on the lawn at the fairgrounds... almost bought a set of fuchs for my 944 there.

Scott, I was told that they don't have much Porsche stuff in Pomona anymore. German Autofest was great. I used to go up there every year. Remember before that, it was Dunkel Brother's down in OC. I suppose I am not one of the regular guy who but or sell there regularly so they decided to not even return my message.

You're lucky to live in America, and lucky to be in big ole Los Angeles area. You should try getting parts out here in the colonies

I used to go to Pomona quite a bit but haven't been there for years now. I also heard there weren't that many Porsche items there - rpobably due to the internet. People can advertise online and don't have to bother going to swap meets. I've bought and sold a few items here on the for sale board and used to buy on Ebay but gave that up years ago too. Generally had a decent experience, but a couple of guys on here attempted to scam me in the last two or three years. I've also noticed people try to do what they can to protect themselves unlike the old days when a deal was made in good faith and paid in good faith and carried over.

Jeff, wish I could help. Build a watercooled hottod and I'll make parts shopping easy for you.

Dealing with the used market is so hard. I was going crazy with the idiots I was getting calling about the bug. I was about ready to go park it on the train tracks or something!

What is it you are getting Jeff?

A lot of regular sellers are either hobbyists with too much going on or folks without a day job that peddle parts of all sorts. So, either you have people with too little time to do it right or "pros" that aren't organized enough to hold down a regular job. You can't expect much out of either one. What you are looking for is a guy who has one project and sells some leftovers / take offs etc. Often a local PCA classifieds will yield much better results. Or even CL.

I told the seller that the coming weekend was a great day for me to go by and paid for the part and pick it up. I really don't care too much about the condition as long as its close to the photo and not broken. After the first initial reply, nothing, but yet, I see it advertise again bumping for more business. So, forget it. I don't have time to play this game. It seem that lots of guys are fighting for some of the stuff like if its free. Maybe its time to just buy it on Ebay or just buy local from MS Road and Race.

George, I need a deck lid grill and clock for now that fit an early car.

The motor may have 50 miles on it. I looked through with scope cylinder walls are super clean and no build up of any kind. I know the seller very well. He's a good friend. He and I both twisted my arm to submission on this one.
