Drove a CTS 2.0t sedan
 

Was at dealer getting suburban serviced and as I wandered the lot a sales guy chats me up. I told him point blank 'not buying' but he was bored and says how about taking that caddy for a ride?

Well **** why not?!

impressions from a guy who's DD's have included tundra, suburban, odyssey, grand Cherokee, wrangler with a civic, 325 wagon and rabbit sprinkled in and a 911 as a toy for several years.

-my goodness you sit LOW.
-b pillar gives me claustrophobic feel
-car mirrors are TINY!
-comfortable seat
-metal paddle shifters...felt cold...very nice touch. love that it goes to manual when you touch it. wish my suburban had that.
-wants to cruise at very low rpm...not thrilled with that thanks to EPA
-nice power for a 4 cylinder
-nvh pretty decent for a 4 cylinder.
-crazy controlled ride. def tighter than my 325 was and that was in touring mode. owned every pothole I could find.
-nice interior materials. maybe a little over the top with electric button for opening things like glovebox and cupholder cover.

if I were dropping near $40k on a sedan I think i'd prefer the 5 series for two reasons- 1 i'll take displacement of the 6 or even an 8 over the trickery of the 4. I like smooth power. 2-prefer upright position and better viewing of 5 series.

Thanks for confirming my assumptions. Seems all from the Big 3 are in always too high a gear to meet EPA regs as you say.

Was pleasantly surprised when I rented a new Camry a few months ago....Had to lift the hood and confirm it was a 4 banger; felt like a V6. Nice red stitching for in the interior. Manual shift was great for passing on the back roads of Georgia....

it's a constant annoyance in the suburban.

once my warranty is up i'm going with a programmer to fix that crap.

I have a new ATS with the 2.0T and a Tremec 6-speed manual.

Love the car---tested Audi, BMW extensively prior to purchase--almost wanted to talk myself out of the GM product, but simply couldn't.

I rent Audi through Silvercar about twice a month and although I enjoy driving the A4 S-Line vehicles, my Caddy (did I just say that?) excels in almost every area--the only disappointment has been mileage, but truthfully I don't really sweat that--and it is already starting to get better as I break the car in a bit.

Love the power, the interior is outstanding, the Brembo brakes and Magnetic Ride Control are stunning, and even the CUE works well for me.

Glad I bought it.

show me a 6 cylinder 5 series for $40k new.

Was at the gas station and an older gentleman looks at my car and says "made in America God bless you" Told him, that's why I bought it. This is my second Caddy and for me there was no reason to look at a European or Japanese car when we make something equal if not better right here at home. Plus it looks too cool!

they are surely pretty cars. love the lines GM has been producing in recent years.

impact i was really comparing mid size sedan to mid size sedan. i personally don't mind going used to get price comparable. never been a 'gotta be new' type of guy.

just don't like the claustrophobic feeling. i will be taking a ride in the CT6 some day.

In an ironic twist of fate I would have never predicted, Caddy is the luxury brand with the most sporting intentions I think.

Yup. ATS compares to a 3-series. Most of the folks on here are stuck on BMW circa-2000. Cadillac beats them in just about every recent comparison test, particularly on things that were previously BMW hallmarks like body control and steering feel.

Bought the wife an ATS4 2.0T about 2 years ago. We bought it because of the look and the feel of the car. Interior is beautiful and the power is really surprising. And like you I was in disbelief that we bought a GM product.....
Ok, now 2 years later;
In the shop 6 times for A/C mold, still smells.
Replaced 3 tires for blow outs, the run flats on the big rims.... not a good idea.
In shop now for a new CUE touch screen.
Voice recognition simply does not work.
Multiple recalls requiring additional trips to the dealer.
They eliminated auto "on" for the rear defrost when the remote start is used because of a potential fire hazard.

All this in 2 years.

Cadillac again for us??? NO WAY!

Love the direction Cadillac is going. I've always been a European car buyer, but I am impressed with the new American vehicles. So much so I bought a Lincoln MKZ hybrid. Completely out of the ordinary for me. I've been very happy so far. Averaging 41 mpg with AC, cooled seats and plenty of power for a daily driver.
