I remember years ago when a bottle of the good stuff was in the $30 range, with the sky being the limit. Probably a lot like wines..."better" is not guaranteed by the higher price and is due to personal preference IMO. Some years back I was visiting a friend and wanted to buy a bottle in his local store with limited choices....VERY limited choiches...the Sammy Hagar Cabo (reposado) was reasonably priced and surprisingly good though SmileWavy

I love Tequila, it's my drink of choice on the rocks.

People think that's strage.

This thread is opening a new world of opportunity for my libation enjoyment.

these are my favourites, I recommend them.
Tequila is to be sipped like cognac or good whiskey, never like a shot... just like you I got sick with tequila when I turned 18 and for years didn't touch it, but now I really-really enjoy tequila..

If you prefer throw the bottle in the freezer, cold is sooo smoooth... :)

Here's a link, and certainly available in the Apple ap store.
Tequila Matchmaker - A free mobile app for tequila fans

Reviews, origin, descriptions, ratings, etc. of , I think, every tequila there is.

I don't drink now(but like an occasion cold beer once every few months), and never have to begin with, even in my 20s. I was at a friend's wedding in San Luis Obispo. You typical college town with modern day hippies in shorts, T shirt and sandals wedding. The bride was a chemists at the local winery. I was told that Tequila do not freeze. Once it gets that cold, you can't taste it. So we have a go at it. It did tasted a lot better then the last time I had it. I can hold my liquor ok for someone who drinks very little. Oh yeah, I sure remembered what happened the rest of the day. Sleeping it off in someone's car for two hours was not fun and letting it all out immediately was a huge relief. Did it again a couple years later with some work buddies when I had my teaching job. We were in a small town for a conference with nothing to do and the only thing open was the hotel bar. That was 20 years ago. Haven't had one drink since but a few beers.

I like it.. with lots of beer. lol

Tequila is strange. It sneaks up on me like no other spirit. I like the sense of freedom but 2 oz and I rapidly lose my ability to speak. 4oz and I can be found shedding clothing and chasing honeys. 6oz and I am likely to be found face down in the sand on a beach somewhere.

I prefer tequila in very small doses. ;)

Chugalug on Tequila, chug a lug on beer, take a puff or two on a Mexican cigarette. Repeat 3 x and TABS isnt standing no more, but is kissing the floor.

I don't think I've ever had tequila that wasn't preceded, accompanied, and followed by beer :D

Vash, I was born and raised in Mexico and am often surprised by how few Americans (or even Mexicans outside central Mexico) know about sangrita. It is a non-alcoholic chaser, usually made with a tomato or orange juice base. Think of extremely kicked up spicy bloody mary mix..sweet, sour, spicy and delicious. A sip of good tequila and a sip of sangrita is about the perfect pairing. Google for recipes, my family has a great one but I am not at liberty to disclose it.

As for tequilas, there have been a few good ones mentioned. What I drink the most these days is Chamucos reposado, also like the various Don Julio's, Cazadores etc.

Don't forget about the Bandera…to honor the Mexican Flag.
Lime juice , Sangrita and Tequila…green, red and white.
I've spent some time in San Miguel de Allende, and they are always happy to see a gringo enjoy it.
San Miguel is also home to maybe the best Tequila on the planet. Casa Dragones Joven..about 300.00 a bottle.
Owned by the guy that started MTV.
I was lucky enough to be invited to a tasting at their villa.

that salt on the hand thing..never understood it.

Ziggythecat 05-05-2016 08:19 AM

The salt / lick of lime is to numb the taste buds to kill the taste of crap tequila..the stuff that tastes like paint thinner.

Ever since this thread started, I can't get "Hey Nineteen" out of my head.
Funny to think that used to be considered top shelf.
