Prediction....If the Tigers continue their losing and inconsistent ways Brad Ausmus will be gone by June and Jim Leyland will take over for the rest of the season. To much talent and to big of a payroll not to show any sense of urgency.

Agreed.

With the hitting & pitching they have (and it shows in the stats) I just don't see how they keep loosing.

It's so frustrating I might even find myself rooting for Chicago this year....

(Nah, I could never do that, or I'd have to turn in my "Al Kaline signature" bat. Btw, I may be in NJ now, but I'm originally from Downriver - probably the one place in the country that makes NJ look good....)

As an aside, I was 12 years old in 1968 when the Tigers won the World Series.

I was a baseball junkie and a complete SF Giants fan.

But Norm Cash fascinated me. I watched (I think the day games at school) the entire series and while Lolich was the MVP, I still can recall Cash's home run in the second game.

Amazing what resonates all these years later.

I remember hurrying home from school to catch part of the 68 series...all the games were afternoon instead of prime time then. Gibson was a great pitcher, but it was Detroits time. I also was at game 5..the final game of the 84 series. The other Gibson hit 2 homers in that game...one near where we were seated.

In Toledo, Ohio, gym teacher put us on the basketball bleachers in 68 and we watched the games with a stinky black and white tv.

I can recite the entire Tiger's line up except the shortstop. Willy Horton in left, Mickey Stanley in center, Al Kaline in right, Yadda yadda. Who was the shortstop? Northrup was first, McAuliffe was second. Norm Cash was first. Don Wert was in there.

Saw the Tigers play in that ***** ass Detroit stadium in 69. Got to see Lolich pitch.

Also saw in 73(74?) the Met's play St Louis in a double header in St Louis.

Literally saw Bob Gibson hit his last grand slam, saw Lou Brock steal a base and saw Willy Mays play right field in the second game.

It was a good day.

Just looked it up...he hit 24 homers, 2 of which were grand slams!! Not bad for a pitcher!

And also Lolich won three games in that series. Gibson struck out 17 batters in one game for a still world series record.
