P.S. The reason of my post (#2) was not to ask for assistance from our friend South of the border but rather to acknowledge Baz concern post and as well to get traffic from the Canadian Pelican which is 100:1 on the "Off Topic Discussions" vice the "Canada" site. Sorry if my post came across as it should belong to the "Off Topic - Politics and Religion" forum.
FWIW, I don't know what made Glen go off on that tangent....sheesh! Your post didn't come across "that" way at all to me.

In fact I agree. There's so much more we could do if politics didn't get in the way. Look at 911.....all our law enforcement and intelligent agencies were not communicating with each other. It took the 911 Commission to get that resolved.

Wildfires are a natural and terrifying force.
My dad grew up in Northern Saskatchewan and he and his family were homesteaders around the Prince Albert area.
I remember being fascinated when I was young by the stories he and his relatives told about being "burnt out" by wildfires and losing their homes, possessions, food stores and livestock. They would rebuild and start over again.

The whole province is tinder dry and it is going to be a very long fire season unless we get some rain.

Interesting though, as I was driving home yesterday I probably saw three or four people throwing cigarette butts out the windows of their moving vehicles...

At least the temperatures are going back down to normal this weekend.

Those people who toss out their cigarettes should be imprisoned.

The only thing I really fear in life is mother nature; there is no planning, Research, or place to hide if she wants you. I have so much internal termoil seeing this as it reminds me of the floods we had, luckily we are on a hill but got sent away twice as they cut power. I know it's not the same as a fire, but the feeling of helpnessness and wanting to protect your family is huge.

Everyone up north did an amazing job to keep people safe and everyone came together (and still are) to help those in need. My wife lost her job last week and we are concerned about Alberta's future but we both agree it's nothing compared to what people of Ft. Mac. have lost...

God bless everyone

Saw a report on the news last night. Over 600 square miles have burnt and the fire is expected to double in size. I can't imagine a fire so massive. Those poor people.

really tough going for a lot of fine folks.
quite a few inhabitants will never go back there. except, perhaps, to gain a sense of closure.

Yes, out of job and now out of housing.

While there were house that did not burn, they might not spares from being bulldozed because of the smoke exposure.

The insurance bill is expect to be around 10 Billions which will be pass down but c'est la vie...

I read it'll take months to put out the fire. It's crazy.

I made a donation today. Easy peasy. Did it at Safeway while I was checking out.

Now Safeway is doubling every donation up to 100000. Will the feds double the doubled amount?

Did that make any sense?

No, it only double private donation.

Corporation will get the Tax Credit as if you had given to the Red Cross (more than $20) you would have got the tax credit.

From Ottawa to match donations to Red Cross for Fort McMurray relief : Ottawa to match donations to Red Cross for Fort McMurray relief. ... The federal government will match all private donations made to the Red Cross to help the ...

Sadly, there were Syrian refugees there.

Some people have bad luck.

That is amazing.

Recently on PBS - there was an interesting program American Experience / The Big Burn. In 1910 and in the northern Rockies a quick burn of only two days took out 3 million acres! Approx. the size of CT. Nearly 80 firefighters perished. Though with the aftermath, they learned much both in fire battle and changed the thinking of forest management.

----
As for the current disaster, its disheartening. Couldn't imagine what some are coping with.
