Activities at Watkins Glen (If I take off Monday....)
Going up for a DE weekend on the 20th-22nd.
Instead of driving 4 hours after a day of DE, I'm thinking of taking Monday off, and staying there Sun eve. and exploring the area on Monday, and then driving home in the afternoon. Any ideas? Also, I posted this about mechanics along the way Mechanics along route to/from NYC->Watkins Glen? (Disaster planning)

I don't know if you will want to do some hiking/walking after a two day DE, but Watkins Glen State Park should not be missed. Other than that, there is not too much to do. You can check out this list, https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attractions-g48815-Activities-Watkins_Glen_Finger_Lakes_New_York.html

I'm heading down that Sunday for the Monday Tuesday Trackmasters. Paul is right, the WG State Park is impressive, Taughannock Falls State Park is also pretty cool and one lake over North of Ithaca. The only other thing I can think of is Corning and the glass museum and main street has decent shops and restaurants.

Curtis Wright museum
If you are traveling west, the Curtis Wright Aviation Museum is interesting to see in Hammondsport. There's also a spirits distillery and tasting room on the east bank of Seneca Lake, maybe 10-15 miles north of Watkins Glen that might interest you as well.

+1 on Watkins Glen State Park, especially in good weather. Plan at least 1h, better 1.5hs, depending how much you want to walk. Entrance is right off RT. 14 on left shortly after you get into town, ~5 min from the track.
If you are willing to make a slight detour, I can recommend the museum of glass in Corning (where I live): Corning Museum of Glass Or if you plan to go to Ithaca, there is this: https://www.priweb.org/ ,pretty neat as well. As for a shop in case of a problem, here is where I take my car: Corning Imported Auto - Used Cars - Corning NY Dealer They service lots of Porsches, BMWs, Audis, .. For more severe stuff I go here, but this is in Rochester: Eksten Autoworks Import Auto Repair Service and Race Car Preparation. Porsche, BMW Specialists. They prepare many track cars, Eksten Sen. (and Jun.) sometimes show up at events to support customers. I will also be at the track for this event, but only on Friday and as a guest - I somehow lost my luster for DE events end of last year and now race karts ... But I will stop by and have dinner with a friend of mine. If you are interested, send or PM me you car number, and I will stop by on Friday. |

I'm not much for restaurants/shops or wineries.
Yea, I will probably check out the State Park.
