930 Targa Stolen

My black 1988 930 Targa was stolen from the garage in Newport Beach in the morning of 04-29-2016. Apparently a professional job; the thief acquired one of our garage door openers, entered the garage shortly after we all had left the house for school and work, forced open the steering column lock, and took off in a matter of minutes. Some indications suggest that it was driven South to the Lake Forest area.

Sorry to hear. Did they break into your home to gain access to the opener or did they use some type of electronic device to gain access to your opener?

I've disabled my garage door opener and keep the rail blocked with a pair of vice grips that can't be reached from outside. Though I have the glass windows painted over, garage doors are SO easy to breach if cool tools and toys are just a broken window away.

Damn, another. Read about Wayne's and now this. Can't recoup the labor hours some might have put into their car but its a good reminder to verify ins. coverage / and or declared value. These old Porsche's have certainly gained and an insurance adjuster may not see it the same.

Sorry to hear this. I just increased the declared value on my 930 with prices going up like they are. My agent wanted me to get an appraisal but after explaining what a racket that is, he agreed to a higher value after I sent him several current 930 ads.

Looks like it's time to give Lojack a call. And Hagerty.

I installed Lojack 4 years ago.

When Wayne's 914 was stolen I raised my Hagerty insurance and I called Lojack to ask how to determine if it's functioning ok. They wanted $100 to come back and test it. Is it worth it?

Why spend a $1,000 on lojack when you can grab a used older smartphone for $75 with a cheap pre-paid sim.

Use any "Find My Device" app or a service like https://preyproject.com/

Hide the phone in the car with a hard wired charger.

Done.
