R.I.P Guy Clark

Probably not well known in this crowd but the iconic Texas/progressive country/outlaw songwriter checked out yesterday. Songs he wrote covered by everyone from Johnny Cash to Jimmy Buffet to Jerry Jeff Walker. "L.A. Freeway", "Desperadoes Waiting For A Train", " Texas 1947" , "Boats to Build" etc. are classics in this genre.

No flashy Nashviille sounds, not about pickup trucks, whiskey drinking, cheating... just simple words about growing older and perhaps wiser, getting along in life and dealing with life's obstacles.

Guy and his wife were well known for the "guitar pulls" that would go on into the morning. Townes, Kristofferson, Steve Earle, Jerry Jeff et al were a great bunch of writers.

I can't access videos right now but "The Cape" is one of my favorite GC songs. RIP

RIP, Guy Clark.

(Whether or not anyone on a Porsche bulletin board have heard of him - and I know they have - plenty of great musicians have certainly taken notice...)

True.. I suspect more than a few have heard the covers of songs he wrote but maybe didn't know who actually wrote them...

"L.A. Freeway" would have been the perfect background music when O.J. was cruising around in his white Bronco...

R.I.P, indeed. Clark also was a fine guitar builder.
