I finally found a camera I like

I've been looking for years and tried 3 or 4 cameras to use as vacation snapshot type photos. I don't want to lug my heavy, expensive D-610 everywhere I go. After a couple of mirrorless models I decided I needed a DSLR. This weekend I picked up a Nikon D-3300 ($399 at Best Buy) and I really like it. It's light, compact, and has enough features to allow you to play do a bit more than just point and shoot. I like the fact that the zoom lens locks in when you are carrying the camera - keeps the camera short and protects the lens.
Sorry about the crappy iPhone picture.

I would be more sorry about the cheap and crappy Granite the camera is on. It appears to be the same cheap and crappy Granite I have.

You have a D610 and post a picture of its replacement/substitute from your phone?
What's wrong with this picture?

At least it's a Nikon.

What kind of a garbage comment is this? The guy is happy with his new camera - who cares what you think of the granite in the picture?

I'm now deciding between your camera, a Canon T5 Rebel and a Canon G9X. All are $400 and take great pics. The size/carryability has me going back to the G9X.

I'd go G9X too if carryability is the primary requisite. You won't use a camera you don't take with you because it's too big.

You have the same crappy granite in your house as our hotel uses for its window sills.

I'm in Oregon and the 610 is still back home in Ohio. :)

Funny. :D

It's been years since I looked into cameras. I'm still using my V-Lux3. I can't believe how much they're selling for now.

Maybe you can post some pics that you've shot with the new camera?

U don't get the joke do U? It is just such a sidewinder off the wall comment that it would be the last thing anybody would think of being as a response..

wdfifteen 05-29-2016 07:49 PM

Is the g9 a DSLR? After my search I would not consider a mirrorless camera. Canon makes a $500 DSLR. If I was a Canon guy, I would be looking at a T5 or T6.

Shaun @ Tru6 05-30-2016 03:38 AM

The G9 is just a large sensor compact that has consistently gotten great reviews.

I used to carry a camera around with me all the time, a little Powershot, and have a collection of in the moment pics over the years that I love. These days I've just been doing customer work pics and my Lumix LX5 has been dropped one too many times.

Your Nikon is best for those pics. The G9X is best for fun.

Scott Douglas 05-30-2016 06:06 AM

These are for when I don't want to carry a BIG camera....
