4 year old child falls 10-12 feet into moat at Zoo

Oh yeah and a gorilla got shot over it. Let's keep this in perspective. Flame on!

Friend of mine had a kid who suddenly went charging through a screen in a second story window. He lived. No one could have stopped him either way.

As for the Gorilla, I don't think he ever suffered. Must have been heartbreaking for the zookeepers though.

Exactly. Had there been no gorilla killed or otherwise, there'd be outrage about the design of the fence, etc. etc and an army of lawyers lining up to sue to zoo.

I must say I'm kinda shocked at the poor fence design too... I get that people go to the zoo to see the animals and therefor the enclosures are designed to have an unobstructed view of the animals however adding a sheet of plex or glass on the people side of the moat would prevent children from getting into the enclosure. I was thinking of an electric fence on the people side to discourage children but some brat would get zapped and then there would be a lawsuit.

You had better believe it.

Here in Pittsburgh several years back, a mother intentionally set her (either 2 or 4 yr old I can't recall) on top of the barricade surrounding the African wild dog exhibit so that the kid could "get a better look". The kid fell in, was mauled to death by the dogs and the family sued the Zoo--there was a "confidential settlement"

Damned if you do damned if you don't.

36" barricade... OSHA requires 42" for a guardrail. I can't believe they didn't have 8 feet of plexi or lucan to keep the idiots from tossing over fruit or half eaten hot dogs.

At least the gorilla is no longer an exhibit.

As he never should have been.

The gorilla climbs down 15' picks up a 4yo that just fell 15' into 18" of water and climbs back up a 15' ladder and the boy is completely unhurt. Then they shoot the gorilla. I don't know anything about gorillas, but if the graphic is correct the gorilla may have saved the boy from drowning.

Yes the fence was short, the zoo's fault; the parents were stupid, blame, oh whatever; put the two together and you get millions.

Gorilla was probably just trying to shake some sense into the young boy, so he wouldn't do it again. Somebody had to, his parents apparently look as though they would be too busy eating hamburgers to discipline their child

In hindsight it certainly seems that way Peppy. Very rough call to make in real time.

You can't hope that the gorilla won't hurt the child and wait and see. Although perhaps not intentional, Harambe was dragging the boy around pretty roughly (I'm sure young gorillas are much more stout). In less than a second, Harambe could have easily killed or seriously injured the boy, intentionally or not. You have to sacrifice the gorilla in favor of the boy's safety. No doubt.
