daily driver cabin air filter change

Wow. If you've not lately (or ever) changed your interior filter, please consider doing it. My outback's filter was awful. I'm embarrassed that I exposed anyone to air circulated through that thing.

It's always a real operation to change cabin filters. The owner's manual for my wife's car says to go to the dealer to have it done. It's a real job and takes time, but no way am I taking it to the dealer.

It depends on the car - some are ridiculously easy to change.

I change it with every oil change and it's still always pretty dirty. First time I pulled it out, I thought I was gonna be sick.

it's shocking how expensive that filter is on either one of our cars.

on my tacoma it's easy, subaru - need a wrench..but still easy.

i change it every 2-3 oil changes. it is dirty but not gross..like the first time i realized either car even had a cabin filter.

They're inexpensive from eBay and if you're not sure how to change it - check out You Tube for a tutorial.

You're welcome!

I changed my wife's MB R350 in about 5 minutes going in from the engine side. The dealer says to go through the glove box and an hour. I'm sure you can guess how they do it.

I need to check if my 2014 F150 has one.

I think it takes me longer to empty the glove boxes than it does to actually change the filters on our Honda's.

some of you guys are fortunate. The outback requires removal of center console parts as well as under and far side dash parts, then the glove box. Disassembly would take less time if my car was POS and I didn't care what I might break.

When I went to the Ford dealer for a 20,000 mile service, I was told by the service advisor that my Mustang didn't have one. Gee, this made me wonder why Ford's service schedule said I needed one...

Anyway, Napa sold me one for $11...easily changed by myself like this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=wrTcTbUux2o

Later, Ford sent me an email asking how I liked the service. I mentioned that I changed my car's cabin filter because the service advisor told me I didn't have one.

When I returned 6 months later, I noticed the dealership had a new service advisor...

you have to post a pic.

full disclosure..i had that dumb look on my face when the guy next to me at subaru bought a cabin filter for his 2005 subaru.. i told the parts guy.."yea..maybe give me one of those as well".

i had 90k miles on hers..it was tragic. so dirty.

It wasn't fun but pretty straight forward and went back together in about 10 minutes. I still love the car...which I thought of as an appliance when I bought it. Other than the unavoidable winter driving, I go pretty easy on the thing and it's hung together really well so far (6 years, now at just under 100K miles).

If I had it to do again, I'd get a '05-09 again but a stick and probably the XT variant. At the time, the now ex didn't want a stick and I was uninformed about XT availability

Crazy is right! Is it my imagination or would it be possible to just cut an access hole in the back of the glove box?
