Vacation Fun: Heavy Equipment

Messing around with heavy equipment while on a vacation seems like a hoot.

There are other places that do this as well.

Anyone do this? How was it? Any recommendations?

too cool

I remember asking my dad to rent a backhoe or excavator for my birthday one year. Might have been in middle school, operating equipment is still cool in my book. Of course, I dont do it for a living.

I can remember as a kid, being on vacation out on the open road and seeing the road crews building the interstate highways. Guys running road graders and leaving a perfectly sized mound of dirt right next to a smoothly graded road bed. Later in life I got the chance to try my hand at running a Cat dozer. It's not as easy as it looks, and this Vegas thing would give anyone trying it a good appreciation for the skill it takes to run this type of equipment.

The yellow JD 450 in the picture. I rented it for a weekend recently to clean up my 3 acres. Great fun and easy to use.

^^^^^ I should have taken a picture of my flock of Deeres, that I had all in the yard at once while digging a trench. I have a JD 955 similar in size to your larger green one, and had the 1978 JD 214 with the 39" rototiller on the back, but the real workhorse was the newer JD 35-C mini-excavator I rented for the project. Lots of fun.

Dunno, never been. I know at Knob Creek some pretty insane stuff happens with the NFA toys. I'm just glad I have a buddy with a stamp collection who lets me run his on occasion...

I love this answer. People say that they would love to do what "I" do for a living. They have no idea how hard it really is.

I do my own tractor pull championship in the back 40 every Spring/ Summer. No way I'd let some tourist fool on my heavy stuff.

I just got back from Vegas today. As a Seattleite I was roasting. Couldn't do anything outside, even at midnight it was in the high 80s. It might be kind of fun if those rigs have AC.

Yep! If I was looking for something to do in Vegas (other than gamble, drink, eat, see a show) I would definitely go to the machine gun place.
