Sharpening Chisels, Planes and Knives...WS3000
For over 40 years I have used either sharpening stones or hand held sharpeners to make the edges sharp. The main issue is the amount of time it takes especially when doing something like inletting the barrel channel for a muzzle loader. So a couple months ago I was at Rockler in San Diego and was buying a couple more router bits and asked the sales guy what they had that was the best sharpening tool/machine they had? He showed me the Work Sharp WS3000 and said it was the best for tools like chisels, plane blades and knives. So I bought one and he was spot on as it was easy to setup and within 15 minutes I had all (18 total) my chisels sharp enough to shave the hair on my arm! It even worked on the blades of my barrel channel scraper from Gunline Tools and the cheap chisels from Harbor Freight so the job of making the stock got a whole lot easier.
I found that after some work on the piece of Claro Walnut I would only need a minute or two and the edges was perfect once again. No long delays or interruptions which was great. I went back and bought the knife attachment later and it did the same on our knives in very short order. While not cheap, it works amazing and was well worth the money!
