Delay Your Online Order for a Possible Discount
 

I decided to pause and think about an order for a set of high quality handmade moccasins/slippers just prior to clicking on "ORDER".
I thought I'd wait until Monday (tomorrow) to call the company and ask a few questions.
This was yesterday evening and just now I rec'd an email where the company has offered me a $10 discount if I complete my order.
I did search for discount coupons with this company, but there are none.
In the past I have intentionally done this to see if other companies would offer a discount. About 30% of the time they do.
Thought I'd share.

Sometimes, Amazon sends me a notice that says "items in your cart have increased in price"

Abandoned cart is one thing we follow up. When someone gets to the point that we have all their info and then bails, we drop them and email and ask if we can help, and offer a little discount. Pretty common in ecommerce..

The moccasins are $175 + shipping...maybe I ought to hold out for $20 or more discount, eh? :D

We do this. Google ads charge us a bit for the email info, which ticks me off. I think it's .75 for each address. We pay to get the ads up, and then pay again to get the info the ad generates. Google is big, powerful, and evil - it's the death star of commerce.

One of the evils of having Google/MS/Facebook tracking programs in your computer is the ability to manipulate prices for consumers.

For large corporations with market dominance they can now track any persons:
-Total spending level per year (i.e. your total wealth).
-Personality profile and item relevance.
-Need to purchase a particular item with time and effort spent.
-Willingness to search on multiple websites or sources.
-Co-ordination with others to find and review products.
-Vulnerability to click-bait discounting/hard selling (i.e. impulse control), and what else is happening concurrently.

That is one reason why GWX is joining the others and pushing itself on consumers.
Microsoft wants to know everything about you and your family.

Let's say you are looking for a specialized golden widget. Very few companies make it. You really really want it.
You've spend hours and days searching at the regular websites but the prices are still too damn high. This is because the browser/operating system company is affiliated with all these online mega-venues. Google knows you are searching desperately for this widget and has relayed Amazon the alert code to charge you a bit more for that particular item. Let's say $10.
Another person looking at the same Amazon webpage is given the regular everyday price.
You are a frugal buyer. You still think it is too expensive and try to perform a generalized search for other companies selling this same item. Google returns those search results on page eighteen following ten pages of diaper and learning to speak congolese and GMILF dating advertisements. You are never able to access the general fair market price because these two companies conspired.
Amazon made an extra $10 on your order. And they processed tens of thousands of other orders that day.

Wait a minute. I thought Amazon had yet to turn a profit?

Just ask Bezos if it's yet to return a profit.

Back OT. I had that happen to treadwright tires. Was curious of the shipping, and they sent me a code. Still didn't buy the tires. Lol
