Where to fly into and stay for Yellowstone

I've got a relative that's going to Yellowstone. They are asking around to find out where folks fly into that are going to yellowstone and looking for recommendations on where to stay while there.

Anyone got any advice that I can pass along?

I would probably fly into Reno, should be cheaper airfare than into California and is relatively close. If you want to spend some dough, the Ahwahnee is very nice and will save you driving in from Modesto. There are tent cabins in the park too, if you want to go a little more primitive

Ummm, that's for Yosemite, not Yellowstone?
For Yellowstone you've got basically 2 choices - Jackson Hole to the South or Billings or Bozeman to the North. I suppose Boise is also an option, but more of a drive to the park. I actually prefer entering from the north. JH is a totally overpriced tourist trap.

Not sure what their plans are when they get there, other than touring Yellowstone, but I have stayed at Yellowstone Valley Lodge in Livingston MT multiple times--beautiful location right along the river--excellent fly fishing about 40 miles from Yellowstone itself, and 40 miles from Bozeman but both are an easy drive. Chico Hot Springs is nearby as well.

The accommodations are cabins and the location really is spectacular.

Riverton, WY, via puddle-jumper out of Denver should work well. Depending on where they're flying in from, they'll almost certainly have to make a connection anyway.

Granddaughter/Groom going on their honeymoon in July, flying in to Salt lake city, driving to YS,

more than likely, booking rooms will be hard to find . I think they had to book earlier in the Spring to get what they wanted.

Billings or Bozeman closest. Billings would be my choice. Drive in over Beartooth Pass (See Motion on the way)......If not staying in the park: West Yellowstone at the west gate; many choices. To the south, stay in Jackson and see the Tetons (not to be missed IMO). 30 miles out the East gate is Cody; fun town. Get room reservations early......I'll be thru on a motorcycle trip next week.

Thanks all, I'll pass this along. I'm not sure what the purpose of the trip is or exactly who is going, but my uncle asked via facebook.

We were there about 4 yrs ago and stayed in West Yellowstone. Not much there but accommodations were available vs in Yellowstone itself. We drove from Seattle so I don't know where to fly into

went last summer
yes to Jackson Hole-It's like civilization after Yellowstone for a couple days.
You need to book 9 months out to get choice in the park, they aren't building based on demand.
Enjoy. . . and brush up on simple phrases in Mandarin.

Definitely Jackson Hole. Very cool town with tons of eateries and other things to do. etc. All of the tours leave out of there as well if you don't want to drive. Numerous places to stay at the ski resort, but staying in town is probably better in the summer. We spalways stay at the Homewood Suites by Hilton, but there are numerous cabins and lodges all over.

Bozeman Is going to be the easiest followed by Billings then Jackson. Jackson is the $$$ option.

Lots of fun stuff from Bozeman to West Yellowstone depending on what you want to do.

From Bozeman you can go to the park Via Big Sky and come back through Gardner and Livingston. That would be my recommendation from a local's perspective.

The Bear tooth highway is a must if you have the time.

Let me know if you need any specific recommendations.

buy a tent and camp just get your camp site first thing in the am
or rent an suv/ van big enuff to sleep in or a camper
it can get cold we went 2 years ago on july 1 it froze
locals said in snowed 3 weeks before
and there will be snow in the higher bits

jackson is a hole outrageous priced $160 for a motel6 crap room and gets way worse
vs about 60 to 100 most other places for better rooms
flying into jackson is about 3 times more then other places also
