Iracing with Oculus Rift CV1

I picked up a new, unsused Oculus CV1 from a guy on Craigslist last weekend. Got tired of waiting.

I will never go back to a monitor again. Ever. The 56" 4K monitor I use looks freakign phenominal in Iracing with all settings maxed, but the Oculus.

Oh. My. God.
The sense of speed is incredible. The immersion... incredible.

The only thing it lacks it 3D positional sound.
The "screen door" effect is negligible... when/if they impliment a 4K screen....:eek::eek:

VR is here!

Any Seattle people wanna try it out? Party at my house! :D

Back the the Ring for me!:D

So what's the cost on this?

If I were within a few hundred miles I'd come try it!

The Rift runs $600 new, but there's a hell of a waiting list. They were selling for as much as $1500 for a while, but now they're dropping down the the $700-750 range. I picked mine up for $740.
If you go the Ebay or Craigslist route, get one that still have the Eve Valkyrie and Lucky's Tale codes. Eve Valkyrie is a *****in' space shooter. It'll make you sick to your stomach.

I want to add that I am extremely right-eye dominant. my left eye is somewhat lazy, peripheral vision only, and blurry (but not as much, in the Rift.) It does not transmit most data to my brain. 3D movies generally don't work for me, but the 3D-ness of the Oculus Rift is out-freaking-standing. I really envy you people with two working eyes. It's unreal to experience the "world" in 3D.
I'm tempted to get a contact lens for that eye now.

I have the same one eye dominance since I was a kid. It also affects your depth perception.

Very much so. Mine happened one day when I was maybe three, my mom says. She whacked me upside the head. Apparently after that, I looked at her crooked, and my mom said "Good, I hope it stays that way"

And it did...

That was the start of a beautiful relationship. not.

Thanks, mom.

Wolfe,

Got mine working this weekend. The screen door effect is a little distracting to me, but I'm getting 90fps out of the new dedicated gaming PC.

Are you saying there's a hardware update possible in the future, or another version that I'll have to buy? :(.

I'm having trouble getting my camera position to match with the driver consistently without fiddling with the sensor. Any tips?

Well, this is Consumer Version 1 (CV1), so it's possible that there may be upgrades with future versions. I could see them going to a 4K screen in the future.

Press the ; key. It should center you. I map it to a button on my wheel.

I have the consumer version. Got it Friday. I'll try your suggestion. Thanks.

I suggest trying the 2011 Dallara Indycar around the 'Ring.

whoa... that was truly nausea-inducing and very intense. Something about the seating potion in the car gives an extra sense of butt-pucker.
