At the 2016 Hot Rod Reunion

George Montgomery, Mrs WD, and I are at the Hot Rod Reunion in Bowling Green, KY promoting our book. I was totally into drag racing until I was old enough to drive. Around age 16 I got interested in VWs and Porsches and kind of forgot about drag racing. But in my early teens guys like Bobby Langley, Bill Jenkings, George, and Don Garlits were my heros. This is the first drag race of any kind I've been to in 40 years. OMG!!! I nearly broke my neck looking at cars.
So you're saying, OK shut up and show us some pictures.
Here:

'37 Chevy coupe

I don't know what this guy had for an engine, but he totally blew of the '63 Ford 427 and hit 160 mph at the end of the 1/4.

Model A coupe with a sweet looking dual quad 409.

Two of the heros of my early-teens - Don Garlits and George Montgomery - me, and Mrs WD. When I was 13 yrs old reading about these guys Hot Rod and Car Craft I never dreamed I would ever even meet them, let alone sit down and have a conversation with Don or write a book about George. Mrs. WD had to pinch me.

This rail had one of George's favorite engines, Ford's 427 Cammer - the engine that was banned by NASCAR.

Most of the people at the event are super nice. Mrs WD, also a teenage drag racing fan, was drooling over this restored Bobby Langley rail from the mid '50s when the owner asked if she wanted to sit in it! Oh yeah!

This is NOT the way to do it. The 55 Chevy got blow off by a Pinto!

Cool pics WD. I think the last time I went to the drags must have been 1965 and the AA Fuelers were running the the high 190s or low 200's ?? and no recollection at all of what the ETs were ? That was when the FX cars were coming on strong and were a big draw.
