Thanks for posting! What a great story! I really applaud this guy for the determination involved with doing something like that, and I admire his reasons for doing it.
As an aside... say you spend $1,000 to visit each country in the world. That should cover a night or two in a hotel, some local food, transportation and airfare - as long as you're combining countries. At that rate, you could visit each country in the world for less than $200K. That's pretty amazing!

My father was stationed in Rota, Spain (Andalucia near Jerez and Cadiz) for a few years when I was younger. I got to visit my parents 2 summers while they were there. I was 19 and 20 at the time. The culture and people were amazing. I wish I'd had been able to spend a year or two there with them to experience more of the culture and see more.
I worked in the kitchen of the officers club on base both summers. The guys that I worked with in the kitchen were all Spanish nationals. Most of them spoke good English. All of them, and even the few that barely spoke English knew one particular phrase that I thought was fairly representative of their culture, "take it easy." I spent a day/evening with a younger guy who's father was a US military guy that retired and married a local. He was a member of a Flamenco group and told me about "El Rocio pilgrimage". He said it takes them several days to perform the pilgrimage during with they dance, eat and drink their way from Rota to El Rocio.

I have a friend that has been in 163 countries. He is a Federal employee that works for ICE deporting those in the country illegally...He spends much of his life on airliners....

Great story.
A couple of university buddies went on a 6 month trip after grad. They all came back except for one. He traveled for 15 years. On two occasions his passport was mailed back to his parents. The first time, his parents hadn't heard from him in over 3 months. Fearing something horrible had happened the parents booked a flight to Israel, the last place his passport was used. On the day they were to leave, he called to ask if they had by any chance seen his passport. Furious, they made him promise to keep in touch more frequently. Time went by and the calls were less frequent. The second time they got his passport they still stressed but decided to wait to hear from him or authorities of some sort. He eventually called 6 months later. When he returned he was clearly a different guy. Restless and unfocused. He has never really amounted to much. I've often wondered why he came back.

That's a lot of flying. Does he get to register/keep the frequent flyer miles?

Don't think he gets the miles when deporting. He doesn't desire to fly on his time off either.
