Had to put down one of our cats today...

She was a real trooper. Cranky as hell, but sweet all at the same time. Classic Tortoiseshell personality Spent hours with me quietly hanging out in my office as I worked.
We got her from the shelter about 10 years ago - she was probably 3 or so then. Nursed her through some health issues and gave her the life of a queen. I'm going to miss her.

Beautiful kitty. Sounds like she had a good life with you.

fanaudical 06-26-2016 08:56 PM

Sorry to hear; it's always hard to say goodbye to a good cat.

WolfeMacleod 06-26-2016 08:59 PM

are you sure you didn't steal a picture of my cat?

Sorry to hear =((

I've got a 22 yr old salt 'n pepper tabby who has water diabetes ( insipidus, not the insulin type), is stone deaf and has arthritis in several joints. We know her time is limited but as long as she can find her food bowl, make it up and downstairs and hit the litterbox she'll be with us. She's older than my first born son... gonna be hard to say goodbye to her when the time comes. Maybe we'll have another two years, but she's going downhill. I see the train a coming...

Sorry for your loss. She was a good looking cat with her colour divided nose.
I loved having cats in the house, they are cool little creatures.

They worm their way into our hearts, leaving a painful hole when they leave. In time, another arrives to do the same. We're fortunate that our hearts are strong enough to bear more than one hole...

My sympathy.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I dread my cats getting older. They've been my best companions and friends through some absolutely horrific times the last few years. They're amazing creatures. All the best.

Charles Freeborn 06-27-2016 06:35 AM

Many thanks. She was a true blue friend.

vash 06-27-2016 06:42 AM

oh no. sorry bud.

i dread the day (i do admit i dread it less on some days..the heavy "blook blook blook" days when you've bought a new rug) :)

Hannah was a beauty. I miss my 2 that died last year. I'm probably due for another adoption. You will be too, after an appropriate healing period.

berettafan 06-27-2016 06:50 AM

not a cat person but that is a cool looking animal right there. The nose thing is wild!

Charles Freeborn 06-27-2016 07:55 AM

Yes, she was a beauty. The "checkerboard face" is a Tortie thing not found on all.
She was the perfect cat for not-a-cat-person people. Didn't constantly want to be in your lap - didn't even like to be picked up. Just wanted to quietly hang with you and have the occasional scratch under the chin and ears. If you got up from your chair you had to be quick or she'd steal the warm seat...

I know that hurts, Charles...I'm so sorry.

We love our furry companions and when they leave us they always take a piece of our heart.

Peace be with you my friend....

wdfifteen 06-27-2016 09:25 AM

Sorry for your loss. She's a beauty.

Ronbo 06-27-2016 09:33 AM

She looks a lot like our tortie. Sorry for your loss.

creaturecat 06-27-2016 10:13 AM

A tough loss Charles, our sympathy...

Those who have never become really owned by a cat don't really understand but own you they do...

Sounds exactly like our 20+ year old Calico. When we first took her to the vet to be spayed (she was a stray that had apparently been let loose in the neighborhood) the vet warned us she had a heart murmur (and still has it 20 years later). She survived a major stroke a couple of years ago but she is like the energizer bunny... she now weighs maybe 5 pounds soaking wet but still goes up and down the stairs and snarks at everyone when she is displeased.

The secret to her long life perhaps is the big spoonful of melted Blue Bell homemade vanilla ice cream she has had every night for many years... and she absolutely demands it. Wife and I just hope to wake up some morning and find her dead in her little cubby hole in the laundry room and we never have to have her put down....

My wife had a Calico that's still her gold standard. Wow, what a grump...towards everyone except my wife. To her she was a creampuff. I met her once; she hissed at me as she walked away...Absolute beauty.
Hannah either had acute pancreatitis or cancer - we don't know which - but it came on very suddenly, or she didn't show it until the very end. She'd been losing weight then about a week ago stopped eating. By then it was too far gone to stop. Cancer is a death sentence no matter what. We decided to not put her through a protracted treatment with questionable outcome.
Yep, we all hope to go quietly in our sleep- both us and our pets. Sometimes it just doesn't work out that way...

So sorry for your loss. I never thought I'd have a relationship with cats like I have had with dogs in the past but these two came into my life as rescue kittens almost 6 years ago. I lost the boy (short hair) 2 weeks ago after a long downward spiral caused by lymphoma. He was an awesome cat, very missed by me, my wife and his sister. I was a wreck for quite a while leading up to the decision to put him to sleep.
