PP Brain Trust BMW Help Needed
Have 2010 BMW328xi Touring at 99k miles. Need to decide to keep or sell. Can anyone tell me what the weak spots on this car are at high mileage? Have done the evaporator, several sets of tires (don't know why this car eats them up so quickly) and the XM radio has gone missing in the selection menu. I am figuring water pump at some time, maybe alternator. Has some electronic wiz bang stuff but not too over the top. Other than the issues I mentioned it has been a pretty trouble free car.
Advice welcome |
I think we need more info. Are you the original owner? Have you kept all maintenance up? Is there something on the horizon that would make this car not a good fit?

original owner, maintenance up to date, no real issues. Wife loves the car, i am wary of 100k+ miles

My experience is they are rock solid. I have had many Beemer daily drivers, wouldn't have anything else. My current ride is '08 528XI. Just like anything else, things do break and you should step up any maintenance if you plan to keep the car.
@100K you should: Change every oil related fluid - it's due Find a shop, scan the entire car with OE or Auto-logic only scan tool - this will uncover any faults You may find the all or some control modules need their firmware updated - possible SAT issue Plan to replace coolant, pump, T-stat, and check radiator for seepage |
Thank you, gambler. How many miles on your 08?
|
112k - it has the valve- tronic 6cyl- as yours should too. Really an excellent combination for all weather driving & good mileage - I average 27.5

Check for oil leaks. Lots of them.

The 6 cylinder engine is rock solid in these cars, but as pointed out you are due for water pump, hoses, etc. replacement. The weak spots on these cars are the electrical and the automatic transmission. Electrical issues tend to pop up in the 3-5 year range, so you may have dodged that bullet. The transmission will either start having problems at the 100K mark or last forever. No rhyme or reason to why some fail and some don't.

transfer case

Electrical gremlins, but I think you have a while to go before they attack.

Thank you for the responses. It is kind of what I was thinking. Didn't know if this model has specific soft spots or not. Transfer case is the most worrying. Easy enough to do the cooling system preventive maintenance. Would love to figure why the XM just decided to go missing. It is an option on the car and worked great for 5 years. Go figure.
