				Anyone know Citroens?

I have a friend who wants to buy a good example DS21 in the U.S., research has already started but I thought I'd take a stab in the dark and see if anyone here has knowledge? | ||

Actually, the DS23 is the best version, but rare in the U.S.

I think the SM was the best version although somewhat plagued with troubles. I lusted after one of those and let that lust slip by when I could have bought one for a few thousand.

If I remember correctly the DS had a very complicated hydraulic self leveling system. The SM is a better looking car though.

I believe that it was called a Citroen-Maserati at the time, subtle distinction. My dad came very close to buying a new one in 1973, as impractical as he knew it would be, it was just too unbelievably cool not to want. He bought a new V-12 Jag XKE instead, so it really would not have been any worse. Here is a picture I took a couple weeks ago when my friend stopped in the street to say hi in his '73 Citroen SM: | ||

Actually we are both right. The Citroen supension was a "hydropneumatic" one: Hydropneumatic suspension - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The DS was known as the Plumbers Nightmare when they were current cars in the UK. The ID versions had far less plumbing.

DS21's are great cars but are getting really old now. What year is your friend looking at? The Fuel consumption will surprise you. Great drive and ride but "different" in so many ways to any other car. Not a lot of power from memory. I drove one for about 6 weeks when I was in Europe in the late 90s. A borrowed car and it was old then. (1974 model) I've always liked them but never lust. So yes nice classic car but all of them are OLD... Ask you friend if he really wants one. I'd pass unless it was near perfect.
