For those of you who know something about BMWs, a question

The cars, not the motorcycles. I have the opportunity to buy a 2007 328i Touring. (Station wagon). The price is reasonable for the miles and condition, according to the used-car prcing resources. It's RWD, 6MT. The question is this: where do I go to find a list of common faults and glitches for this particular era of car? I've been to bimmerforums.com and saw that the cooling system is made of plastic, and needs replacing every so often. Other than that, not very many gripes. I plan on using it for a daily, in mixed driving.

Water pumps, window regulators, and control arm bearings. All will fail with some regularity.

Sold wife's 328i coupe last year just before the warranty expired. Car was cool, fun but wasn't a fan of those run flat tires.......had to pay $500.00 plus for a battery replacement which wasn't covered. Seemed to always be sending me "service" notices. When i bought the car, the salesman said I'd receive a BMW loaner while my car was in the shop.......never happened, they'd say a loaner wasn't available and send me to Enterprise rent-a-car down the street. Enterprise turned out to be such a hassle, I opted to just arrange a ride from a friend. I got the feeling that they, Niello BMW, considered me, "a lowly 328I" owner, not worthy of a real BMW loaner. Additionally, when I bought the car, the salesman told me the run flat tires couldn't be rotated. Later, after it was too late, my guy at Radial Tire told me that was false.

I liked the look of the 328I Coupe but I'm happy to have it gone more. Not planning on another BMW.

I saw somewhere the blower motor throws sparks on the evaporator.

No cure.

Hell with that noise.

You paid someone $500.00 plus to replace a $200.00 battery?

You don't have much choice. I ran into this on the 530i we used to have. IF you can find the battery (special vented unit since it is inside the passenger cabin and no one within hundreds of miles of me had one that would work) you still have to take the car to the dealer to have the computer reset (or else you will ruin the new battery and start over again).

I will say that our 530i (2007) was awesome and had zero issues (besides the world's most expensive battery).

I've got a friend that makes a very good living repairing BMW's. He shows his friends all the goofy stuff that can and will go wrong and why. I wouldn't own one past the new car warranty.

I've owned 3 BMW's and still own one today.

Yeah, plastic in the cooling system needs replacing. The 5 series (E60/E61) put the engine management brains under the spare tire, so when the sunroof drains back up they get waterlogged and the dashboards go crazy until you dry them out. Good news is they are easily relocated to the side panels.

Our '06 5 series wagon still runs great, but experiencing some annoying electronics issues mainly related to the wiring harness. They get stressed every time you raise the rear hatch and eventually break. So I now raise the window and not the hatch whenever possible. Not a major deal, but annoying when your get random idiot lights popping on.

All-in-all not bad, but far from bulletproof. FWIW, the BMW forums are pretty helpful. Replaced my own battery w/o getting the stealer involved.
