too much money, sure but no loyalty? I assume you're talking about Durant. I think 9 years is plenty of time to give it a good shot and move on. These guys have very short carers and if it takes playing with better players to win a championship (which is no guarantee, ask Karl Malone) then go for it.
Westbrook is just as likely to leave so to expect him to stay and hope management surrounds him with talent is just dumb when he can join a known entity and have a shot.

My guess is Wade. I was glad to see Durant leave. I hope Westbrook is right behind him. I want to see The Thunder go right down the crapper & their lying POS owner goes bankrupt.
I think The Heat should have hooked up Wade as The Lakers did for Kobe, Pat Riley looks like a fool. I tried to leave the NBA behind after The Sonics left, but I've been watching the NBA since I was a little kid & can't miss The Playoffs.

Durant......$54 million over two years plus $30 million a year from Nike. Money is not an issue here.

I don't fault any of the players for taking the money and running... I mean if someone knocked on your door and said "I will pay you X million dollars to play ball." would any of us say NO!
I'm a long time Lakers fan (from the Magic and Kareem days) recently defected to Clippers, hoping the Lakers can get it together. Speaking of loyalty I find it interesting how Lebron abandon ship and was burned in effigy... and then returns to cheers.

That's because whine and complain all they want, they knew he was their ticket to winning a championship.

It's not personal, it's strictly business.

Way too much money? Do you have any understanding of economics? The league and the game has grown financially by leaps and bounds. Players are just earning what is rightfully theirs from a percentage perspective.

Its the players agents. These guys are ruthless negotiators. Many have them as nanny service too such as when they want to spend, need permission. The agent can nix petty things like buying such car, etc.. Must be the thin air up by players heads. LOL

As I understand it, Pat Riley never even reached out to Wade or his agent during the process when Wade took all those meetings with other teams.
Sorry, but Pat Riley dropped the ball on this one. Should have gotten some value from D. Wade instead of letting him walk. Should have made moves earlier in free agency too. |

"Under the current collective bargaining agreement, just about half of all of the NBA's basketball-related income is earmarked for player salary. The league's annual TV revenue is going from $930 million to $2.67 billion, an increase of $1.74 billion per season. (This assumes a flat contract, which may not be the case, but work with me here.) Half of that is $870 million. That's what players stand to gain per year from the TV contract bump.
Players are forecast to receive a combined $2.33 billion in salary this season. Now add an additional $870 million to that. That's an incredible increase ... without any increase in the pool of players receiving salary. (Even if there is two-team expansion in the near-future, you're only adding 30 players to the 450 current roster spots.) Total player salary will increase by 167 percent just because of the TV deal, excluding any other growth." All we ever hear about is player's salaries, but who is really banking? Number of owners...30 Number of players...446 Who's really getting screwed...besides the fans.

I couldn't care less. Give both teams 80 points and let them play for two minutes. It would be the same outcome.

That article ignores the other income flows and valuation increases owners benefit from, and instead assumes that the TV deal will be the only source of increase for both parties.
Lacob bought the Warriors at $450mil in 2010. Ballmer bought the Clippers in 2014 for $2 billion. On his ownership valuation alone, that bumps Michael Jordan into the three comma category. I can understand why some think athletes are overpaid. I can't see why they think athletes are taking the lion's share of the money. Last edited by cheeze; 07-07-2016 at 04:43 PM.. |
