Is dolly tire patch-able?

Thinking of pouring in a sealant.

Or can I get to the inside to stick on some bike tube patch?

I looked at new tires and they cost more than the dolly.

Tube generate a lot of heat. Not good for long distances or highway.
Sealant probably is fine. Ask your local tire guy (who you trust).

herr_oberst 07-05-2016 12:50 PM

Get a new tube. Harbor Freight.

It's a two-wheeler dolly. Doubtful it will see much highway or high-speed use, but this is vash....so, .....

flipper35 07-05-2016 12:51 PM

This is a hand truck/dolly? Tube would work or a plug or pop it off and patch with a regular patch.

rusnak 07-05-2016 12:53 PM

Eh? Don't buy a tube. It's cheaper and easier to buy the whole wheel/ tube/ tire assembly at either Harbor Freight or Tractor Supply. When you have a fleet of them ( I have a fleet of them), that's when you start buying tubes, tires, bearings etc.

porsche tech 07-05-2016 12:57 PM

Tube is only like $5 at Walmart and the tire comes off with a couple od screw drivers. Just went through that with my pressure washer.--Dave

rusnak 07-05-2016 12:59 PM

No that's a two piece wheel. It's easier than your one piece. But my point is that you still have an old bearing, etc. Just change the whole thing. I justify changing out parts, but that's because I have close to 80 tires that need servicing.

Steve F 07-05-2016 01:02 PM

Only $5.99 for whole brand new wheel at Harbor Freight:)

vash 07-05-2016 01:07 PM

Sorry. Hand truck!!

I've never had much luck with the goo on these small pneumatic tires.
Then again, I've never had too much luck with these small pneumatic tires.
I absolutely hate these cheap chinese things.

So I'll thow out yet another opinion- If I were in HF, I would look into replacing both those tires with solid wheels!:D

There is nothing worse than sitting a heavy appliance on a hand cart and realizing that one wheel is low on pressure.

rusnak 07-05-2016 01:18 PM

The goo stuff breaks down in hot weather. If you want to go cheap, then get the Slime patch kit. The tube can be repaired if the valve stem hasn't broken off. Takes about 15 minutes. Use a bucket of water to locate the hole. It's easy if you have an air compressor.

Scott Douglas 07-05-2016 01:27 PM

Anybody else besides me find it sad that in today's society we don't even think twice about replacing something like this rather than fixing it?

Icemaster 07-05-2016 01:36 PM

Bike tube repair kit. Same as you'd patch any inner tube. 5 minutes. Did it 3-4 times before when we had to dolly equipment across a construction parking lot.

Amazing how many geeks don't know how to do something slightly mechanical.

Por_sha911 07-05-2016 01:51 PM

Oops, a hand truck? Don't they still make the plugs? I wouldn't use one for a car but for a hand truck why not? Either way, don't take it on the highway... :)

rusnak 07-05-2016 01:54 PM

You don't put a plug in a tube. Patch.

fastfredracing 07-05-2016 02:06 PM

I have tubes in mine. I just make sure t0 wear my helmet and strap in real good in for sustained high speed runs :D
Been like this for 3 years now, easy peasy, no leaks, no problems

This^^^^^^^^^^^^^

BTW, mine is tubeless, popped bead, aired it and it had no leaks after being dumped in a bucket. Musta had some schmutz in the bead.....

masraum 07-05-2016 02:19 PM

I vote tube. I'm pretty sure that I converted mine to tube a while back because it wouldn't hold air.

O.K. I quit. I didn't realize it already had a tube.

craigster59 07-05-2016 02:36 PM

Buy "no flat tires" on Amazon... https://www.amazon.com/Marathon-Universal-Utility-Bushing-Included/dp/B000WU1A3O

Or go out and invest in a Magliner convertible dolly....

I put green slime in my wheelbarrows. I think it works.

wdfifteen 07-06-2016 07:51 AM

^^

Green Slime works great. I've replaced these tubes and they are a PITA and not much less money than a bottle of Slime. I put Green Slime in my mower tires. It works great.

Tobra 07-06-2016 10:24 AM

Buy a new tube, you cheap bastage, or patch it.

rusnak 07-06-2016 01:03 PM

For what it's worth, the "stock" tubes are crap.

There are better tubes at places like Lowes which are thicker and advertise that they have a self sealing feature. I don't know if that's true because I have a ton of them and just can't keep track of em. But we do run the wheels off of the wheelbarrows and dump carts. And have even worn some tires and bearings out.

$1.98
Shop Slime Rubber Patch Kit (5 Patches, Scuffer and Glue) at Lowes.com

Haven't seen one like this.

Went this route. I never think about HF. Thanks

rusnak 07-06-2016 04:15 PM

HF also has the Slime patch kit. It comes in a reusable carboard tube. But as I say, get a new wheel, new tire, and two new bearings while you're at it.

Tobra 07-06-2016 04:23 PM

Also, if you lay a piece of linoleum on the inside of the tire, it will protect the tube from punctures.

wdfifteen 07-06-2016 06:05 PM

^^
LOL! Good luck getting a piece of linoleum and a tube inside a 4" tire.

Tobra 07-06-2016 10:05 PM

Heat gun makes it pliable enough, piece of baseboard vinyl works okay too. If I can do it on a mountain bike tire it probably would not be that bad on a tire that is twice as wide. Was too heavy on the bike though, better to carry a couple patch kits and avoid thorny areas.

Cajundaddy 07-06-2016 10:17 PM

My hand cart tires were cheapass Chinese tubeless and held air great until you tried to move something with it. As soon as they saw you walking toward the cart they went flat on demand and would fall off the bead so they were difficult to re-inflate. I changed out the wheels for solid tires and never looked back. My hand truck works first time-every time without the need for a compressor on standby. Productivity win.
